You're joking about Caldwell right?

 

Hurns, Davis, Abry Jones are 3 UDFA's that are contributing hard to the team right now that he's picked up in the past year.

He's drafted guys like Smith & Smith who are contributing as rookies, Gratz who plays well, Cyprien who has had good games and for the most part is a good safety (despite what you think). He's drafted Allen Robinson who has been great, he got Dennard in the FIFTH ROUND and look at how well he is running. He drafted a legit starting center in the SIXTH round who is performing pretty well for a rookie. He drafted Linder who is grading as one of the best guards in the league.

 

The one guy who should not be on the hot seat is Dave Caldwell, he's doing a good job...

Compare Abry Jones to Alualu and D'Anthony Smith-two guys drafted much higher at the same position.

 

Compare Linder to every Gene Smith 3rd round pick.  It's not even close.

 

Allen Robinson?  Hurns?  Can any Gene Smith WR pick match their overall potential or productivity?  Mike Thomas had 48 catches his rookie year.  Robinson already averages more per catch, already has a longer reception, already has more yards and TDs and he's playing with a rookie QB.  Hurns, nearly doubles Thomas' YPC, is on a pace to surpass his receptions total, already has more yards, and obliterates Thomas'TDs.  Oh year, there are still 7 games left to play this season.

 

One minor correction:  Gene Smith brought in Ryan Davis his last year.

 

However, your overall point remains sound.

 

Caldwell definitely is not the problem with this team.

Yeah. I meant to post this last night when I saw it.  Glad you posted it.   

 

Cyp definitely over-pursued the play, but JT missed his gap and Bradley also alluded to it being a "gap" issue in his post game presser.

Jonathan Cyprien has been lackluster this year.

 

I have higher expectations for the 33rd overall pick of the 2013 draft than what we've been getting.

 

He missed two big assignments on the two long Jeremy Hill runs today.

 

He doesn't make any big plays.  He sometimes doesn't even make a very basic play (which leads to the neckbreaking TD that put the game out of reach)... 

 

If he was a rookie playing like this, I'd be OK and patient and I would hope that he makes a huge jump in year 2.  It's already year 2..... and can we honestly say that he's gotten better?  It's frustrating because I can't honestly say that he has.

 

 

Now, before anyone comes and brings up how much better he is compared to Prosinski and Winston Guy - yes I agree he's better than the guys that have been cut.

 

Looking at it realistically, I think he is a very below average to average safety in this league. 

 

This regime made him their 1st defensive draft pick.  He is clearly not the difference maker they thought he would be.

 

Once we get a rangy FS, it will allow Cyp to play closer to the line of scrimmage, that will certainly help.

was it Fat Tony who is talking crap about Cyprien this morning on 1010...don't get me wrong I am not bashing fat tony I normally agree with him on most of this points, but I have no problems with cyp right now, I think he's holding his own and has done basically everything I expected from him coming out of college. I think he will take a little longer to adjust to the coverage on the NFL lvl because of where he came from in college. But I anticipated that from the beginning, I thought coming out of FIU he was going to be a thumper and that is exactly what he has been. He has blown a few coverages here and there but I expect he will work those kinks out with time.so far I think the pressure that we are getting up front is hiding a lot of the youth, injuries, and inexperience we have at the DB position. But I do see improvement and I think when everything comes around Jacksonville will have one of the top 5 defenses consistently in the league.

I was wrong then about it being Cyprien's blunder.

 

I still want to see more impact plays from Cyprien, though.  Hopefully we start seeing something soon.
