Is the SEC overrated?

Trav:

1. What, in your own words, is a "trap game"?

2. What, in your own words, is "playing down to your opponent"?

3. You admitted that players are more motivated in rivalry games. What, in your mind, is that motivation used towards?

The terms are media created terms, particularly the term trap game.

Rivalry weeks are a little more amped up. But it's both sides. It's not more motivating for one then the other. Your playing guys you played against in high school, sometimes longer. These are games where most of the bigger recruits were recruited by both schools and some bad blood gets created in the process. Kids don't play harder because the team they're playing is better, or worse for that matter.

So now you at least agree that, in rivalry games, both teams play harder than they do in non-rivalry games? Because originally you said kids don't play more amped up.

No, I said they don't play harder. That is still the case. Kids don't play harder from one game to another. From game to game you find different motivating factors.

You won't though find Billy WR running his route harder if it is Wake Forest in game 1 or Clemson in week 8.

If there is a difference I would question that player on my team...he should be going as close to 100% as possible at all times.

It really blows my mind that you guys think Alabama would play Hofstra with the same level of determination as they would Aurburn. That is one of the silliest things I've heard a college sports fan say.

Sinple yes or no. You think that Cooper will run a post any different against Hofstra then he will against Ole Miss? Yes/No.

Quote:FSUs best win was over an overrated ND team.

the top 25 poll midseason is really kind of a joke. maybe a top 25 come seasons end would hold more clout but still those ratings dont reflect which teams are actually the best.

my whole argument is that FSU is overrated in the poll and then you use an argument about beating teams based on the rankings in the polls......
Guess we have to throw out all those SEC teams ranked in the top 25 too....cuz its a joke and all. They must be way overrated, I mean they have lost games. Lol wow some of you SEC homers.

you been drinking all day or something? i havent propped up a single team based on rankings at all. my whole argument from the start is that when watching FSU and winston play, in my opinion, theyre not as good as people think.

that has nothing to do with the SEC, it has nothing to do with the SEC teams rankings.

if it makes you feel better, i also dont think miss st is the best team in the country.

also just out of curiosity, what makes me an SEC homer? the fact that i dont agree with your opinion or the fact that i dont think that 1 single team from the ACC is the best in the country?

its funny..... all these FSU fanboys keep tossing around the insult "SEC homers"  just because theyre mad that we dont agree that 1 singled out team not in the SEC isnt getting the love that they think it deserves. talk about pot calling the kettle black except on a much larger scale.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I think Cooper would go across the middle and risk getting leveled against Ole Miss. I don't think he risks that vs Hofstra.

Isn't that playing down to Hofstra rather than playing up to Ole Miss?

How can he "play up to Ole Miss" when currently Alabama is ranked higher than Ole Miss?

That's in rankings, we're not talking about those right now.

It doesn't matter. Trav is saying that players don't harder against different opponents. If someone is playing is "playing down" to Hofstra then they are, by default, playing Ole Miss harder.

Trav also refuses to call the Buckeyes Ohio State even after I scolded him for just calling the school Ohio.

He is a grown man, they aren't too keen on being scolded.

Harder than Hofstra yes, but that doesn't mean they are playing harder than they normally would. I have never played football on a team before, so I don't know if they play harder or not, I just don't see playing down to weaker competition as proof of playing harder for others.

Just use common sense. If they do play down to Hofstra, why do you think that is?

And the entire debate started with Trav saying that teams do not play harder for different opponents. As in there is no difference. Zero. Zilch. The Hofstra example is to show that there is a difference. I can't get him from point A to point C without him conceding point B, first.

I have played football before. I know that when we were going up against the reigning State Champs, we had an incredibly intense week of practice. We knew we would have to be extremely prepared and to "bring our A game", and then some, if we wanted to pull the upset. We did. Likewise, if a team is facing the #1 team in the country, with an opportunity to put their team on the map / pull an upset, that team is going to bring it's "A game". This is our point

You are off your rocker. He'll run the route that Saban and Kiffin want him to and he will do it at the same speed and precision he would no mattter the opponent.

I knew you couldn't answer yes/no.
