So who is to blame?

#21

Players have to execute but coaches have to give players the best opportunity to perform.

One-man coverage against Des Bryant is ignorant. Although Mcray did show that he can rise to the challenge.

First-round LT could not stop fired journey man ex-Jag Mincey is ridiculous.

Four-man rush against the best O-line in the league is a formula for losing.

And so on...

Quote:I blame it on a painful plan of building through the draft, that makes it hard to win in the shortterm.  My fear for the longer term is that the plan necessitates good picks; some of the key picks don't seem to be improving like you would like to see for players that should soon become the nucleus.  To fill these holes, I really hope they are able to attract some good free agents next off season.

So what are the top 2-3 priorities you want to fill in free agency?  With what players?

Not disagreeing with your statement at all.

Just wondering how you would approach this offseason.  Granted it's impossible at this point to know which players will be available and which ones won't...but still.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Too many late draft picks starting.

Thomas only had 5 tackles as a middle linebacker while Watson and Hayes had 2 tackles each and Smith had 3 tackles.  Boselli said the LB could not get off their blocks.  Our CB were beat too often and the FS once again missed too many tackles.  So, of course, the defense gave up over 30 points - again.

Offensively we have the rookie QB, who hopefully will develop, but we are also severely limited at TE.

Hah.... throw in Mincey as well right?

Knighton wasn't going to play for this team.  He has poor work habits and this rah rah stuff would have turned him off.

Nelson??  Have you seen him play?  Did you watch Thursday night?

Daryl Smith - Yeah he was worthy but for the age and how much work was left with the rebuild it would be a waste.

EDIT:

The rebuild method aligned to the changes in the CBA have hurt this teams turn around.  I am a broken record with this but....  You can only practice so much and veterans that know the NFL would help rebound the team quicker.  Look what the Seattle guys have done for the defensive line this year.  It helps that they know the system and don't need the class room time like the draft and young players.

Honestly, I think it was a whole total team meltdown.

Shad for having us play in London and taking away the vital importance of home field advantage for when this team is actually good.    Beyond that, on the field, the problem is a lack of talent and that lies on one person.  Is it to early for this?  Probably, but these conversations are coming quick.

Quote:I agree with this.  Fans have unrealistic expectations.  They expect the team to actually be competitive, heck - maybe even win a few games.

Until people get rid of this concept of "winning" it's just going to be frustrating.

You do realize teams go from 1-15, 2-14 and so on to playoffs the next year right?

At this point, the Jags are one of the only teams that have never come close.

This is true. This is THE softest Ive ever seen the NFL. And its only going to get softer imo. Its hard to go with rookies by commitee. But we have to play the cards that are dealt.

Quote:That may be the reason but it was the GM who made this team so young.  Just because he took an action to gut the roster and sign all young guys does not make it the right one.  We are 1-9 so clearly it was not the right move for this season and last season. This regime is 5-21 since taken over.  That is not at all a confidence booster.  It may get better next season but there is no real sign of that happening right now.

It's frustrating to watch, but this regime has been very transparent from the beginning.  They said they were going to build with youth through the draft.  That's exactly what they've done.  When you go that route and start as many 1st and 2nd year players as the Jags it's not going to be pretty.

Whether or not the right players are being selected or if they are being coached properly is another discussion entirely.  If this team is 1-9 next season, then heads will roll.

1-9, 2-8, 3-7.... He's going to need to be .500 after 10 games in order for Bradley to keep his job.

I actually think there is talent on this team but I don't think Bradley is the right guy for the job.

That's the point people are making, the youth that has been brought in is looking pretty average to below average.

Thats why patience has to be practiced and then preached. I for one would rather have the rookie QB makes mistakes instead of seeing a veteran (Henne) make the smae mistakes and take more sacks.

Patience is a very tough thing where fans are concerned. Next year is probably right. If it hasn't I proved next season then you have to look at things.

Nelson? Wasn't aware that as an option for Caldwell.

And he's not very good.

Yeah, but his history shows he doesn't stand for incompetence in his employees for too long. You don't make that kind of money by doing that. So let's suck up this year and hope it'll stand for us in seasons to come.

Quote:Who should he have kept?  Daryl Smith and Jennings?  What's our record if they were still here?  There was no one else worth keeping.  Weren't you one of the ones calling to clean house and burn it down anyway?
Smith was good though wasn't he? probably would have been worth keeping just to help out at LB (if i remember his position correctly)

All I need is Jaguars football and my dogs

I agree. We do have talent, who I think will be very good. I don't think the coaches are developing/ utilizing their abilities the proper way. Caldwell has done well this far. Bradley just doesn't know how to fit the pieces to the puzzle.

The best player from the 2013 draft is McCray. A 7th round pick. Better hope those players from that draft play their [BLEEP] off next year or you can compare Caldwell to Gene Smith.
