The biggest problem I have seen that im sure all of you have as well is the inability to stop the run. I think everything starts there. It's hard to say what the problem is. I don't know if its up front or the LB's fits but we have to get it fixed. I know I am not a fan of Hayes up to this point this season. To many times he looks lost and disappears for stretches of the game and the same with Russle Allen. I like Poz but against the Chargers there was multiple times where it looked like he over ran the play and was not in his run fit. It's hard to say for sure not knowing exactly what each guy is supposed to do but just from appearances.

I'm sure its a mix of a few different things but it needs to be corrected soon.

Also am I the only one that feels like were playing with two SS types?

Quote:I don't see it. Both are physical players best suited as box Safeties, as both are liabilities in coverage.

If Darius was a liability in coverage then I would agree as Cyp certainly has been so far in his young career.

I'm not so much worried with the lack of stopping the run but more worried about the inability to stop the pass. With it being such a passing league that has to be the priority.

No its not. Roy Miller is horrible. When you RUN STUFFING DT is getting steamrolled every other play this is what happens.

On Hayes, as I said in another thread, he would be a 4th or 5th LB on anyone else's team. If afraid to say but even Russell Allen has more talent then him. I wish we would have signed Jo-Lonn Dunbar after he was cut by the Rams.

I don't understand how your not worried about stopping the run. According to Pro-Football Reference, through 7 games, teams have ran the ball 5 more times then they have thrown the ball with a 4.6 ypc avg. It is a passing league I agree with you there but this team is not forcing teams to throw enough. If they are getting just about 5 yards each time they run the ball it makes it hard to get them off the field.

The Defense just has to play better all around is what im getting at.

Not stopping the run is killing this defense in a number of ways.  For one thing - it's playing a big role in eliminating the 3rd and more than 4 situations needed to blitz effectively.

Sadly - the poor run defense is happening at all three levels of the D.  Linemen - LB gap filling and secondary coming up to play the run.

What I meant was fixing the run defense is as simple as finding another solid DT and ILB the pass defense is a little more complicated problem

Quote:Its been hard to tell but does it seem like Russell Allen has disappeared this year? I used to hate him, then warmed up to him, but now I don't notice him?

Marks seems to be the only saving grace on the line anymore, but seems like every week we keep getting gutted right up the middle.
Russel Allen provided us with a highlight fumble on the goalline if I remember correctly. Otherwise he wasn't around too much.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster
