Colvin's Debut...

Quote:Because Carey was supposedly this great steal off the Browns because of injury. He was going to solve our CB issues. Then he finally played and was awful.

Now everyone here is acting in a similar manner and that Colvin is a sure fire starter and will be great, just because we haven't seen him play yet....

I know it isn't exactly the same but it gave me a horrible Carey flashback.

I get that, but I would say there is more basis for optimism for Colvin than Carey.

Not that it guarantees anything for Colvin, mind you.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Quote:Please don't get your hopes too high. He's coming fresh off injury and hasn't played real football in over 10 months. I fully expect him to struggle somewhat as he regains confidence back in his repaired knee.

The confidence within "His Repaired Knee" was regained within his rehab. The rehab to which he drug weights across the field. The rehab to which he regained lateral motion. The rehab to which he felt that he belongs...

If Colvin's knee will perform to "Rehab Expectations", he'll perform to "Caldwell's Expectations" as per his draft status...

Players talk all the time about going through a period where they have to regain confidence in their previously injured knee, foot, leg, shoulder etc. once returning to game action. Psychologically, the games are different than dragging weights across the field with no one around but a trainer.

Players also talk about how confident their surgically repaired body part is much stronger than it was prior to the injury. For those that second guess their health and the rehab process has allowed the situation to become an mental issue...

You can't simulate putting yourself in uncontrolled situations. No rehab is going to prepare the player for that first unexpected hit or slip or twist that tells the player that his knee can take an unexpected challenge and actually hold up. Rehab will never put you that far out of your comfort zone. Those things you will have to experience on your own.

There are so many random forces at play in real situations that a player has to experience in order to fully regain confidence in his repaired body part.

I know this from my own experiences with surgery and rehabilitation.

Colvin wasn't even that good in college. All of you rooting for him to be some shutdown corner in the NFL is insane.... I'm just hoping the kid can play and he's aggressive rather than soft and scared to get hurt again

I saw some plays tho and he's got talent... Hope it translates to NFL

I see we have a new negative Nancy troll. Terrific.

Just realistic in declaring a 3-4 rounder our #1 SD CB

Most people are saying starter. Not number 1 cb.

Colvin would have been drafted as high as the late first round, probably in the second, had he not been injured. Not unrealistic at all to think that that sort of player could be a starter early. I don't recall anyone from the team (or anyone rational on the message board) coming out and saying that Colvin will be a shutdown corner. Shoot, I don't think there even is such a thing as a shutdown corner anymore.

He wasn't that good, but he's got talent... Which is it?

Watch his tape... He's got talent but it's not like he was coveted as a shut down corner.

It's a fairly accurate statement.

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't do some funky sack dance after, that is when players get hurt.

He has said in an interview that he doesn't even think about it or worry about it at all. He just goes and plays normally.
