Quote:Against the Browns Not really that relevant. Bortles didn't play a great game statistically but watching Mallet he wasn't impressive, either. Looked like he got lost trying to go through progressions if his first read wasn't getting open, and for a guy in his fourth season and playing for a coach whose system he was in at NE he doesn't seem as good as I'd hope he would if I were a texans fan. Quote:Against the Browns i never even mentioned any stats so thanks for the irrelevant information.

Quote:Not really that relevant. Good grief. That was his first game in forever. His first "real" game in forever+. Just because TMD praised him doesn't mean you have to look for things of a negative nature to say. I suspect if that were Bortles first game you'd be praising him. Why do so many people care what TMD thinks? Jeez.

Quote:You know that is not my name Achilles. So why do you call me J-Dub?I get plenty of hair in my nose/mouth.. and i'm clean shaven, Zing! Quote:Not really that relevant. Mallett went through his progressions like a pro. Not sure how you're gonna say that when he found his hot read every time. As a Texan fan I'm cautious about Mallett because of the Keenum tease last season but the guy was a field general who commanded the offense better than Schaub in even his best games. If he can continue to play that way even against the Colts and Ravens then it's easy to see why fans would be believers.
Quote:Not really that relevant. For his first game as a Texan he did an outstanding job. Strongest arm in the NFL and he was pretty accurate when you consider first game jitters. I'm not crowning him just yet but he'll be able to spread the D like no other Texans QB has in the past. Or like any QB in the NFL for that matter. Quote: For his first game as a Texan he did an outstanding job. Strongest arm in the NFL and he was pretty accurate when you consider first game jitters. So he has a stronger arm than Stafford, cutler, or even flacco just because you say he does or are there actual facts to back that up?

Quote:Mallett went through his progressions like a pro. Not sure how you're gonna say that when he found his hot read every time. Knowing your hot read on a blitz isn't going through progressions. The way I recall the game was just as I said. If the first option didn't come open and he had to go somewhere else he seemed to get lost trying to go to his second or third read. I would find that disturbing as a texans fan, considering this isn't a new scheme or system to him.

Everyone knows (thanks JW!) that's how you really determine arm strength.

TackHammer is simply saying that his first game was very productive, but he's not counting him as a long-term starter until he backs it up for the rest of the 6-game season.

Great post.

Quote:"I'm not crowning him just yet but he'll be able to spread the D like no other Texans QB has in the past. Or like any QB in the NFL for that matter." Reading comprehension is fundamental here. I said he could spread the "D" in other words he is capable of making throws down field and the D will have to honor that. Texans have never had a QB that could do that with any accuracy. Can he do it consistently? Dont know, hence the "I'm not crowning him king just yet" That clear things up for ya? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Quote: Google is your friend......Well it can be if you use it,otherwise it can make you look foolish. I found this using google. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82a4cb00/article/ron-jaworksi-joe-flacco-has-strongest-arm-in-nfl If you want to say that mallett has one of the strongest arms in the NFL, I'll give you that. But you say you're not crowning him anything but he has the strongest arm in the NFL, can spread out a d like no other Texans QB.....and like no other QB in the NFL as well. I won't let you have that and you should check your own reading comprehension because you either said what you didn't mean to and don't understand that or you deserve my original comment.
