1010xl reporting Hugh Freeze has been offered the HC job at Florida

Quote:everybody is saying this. that UF can get whoever they want because they can outbid anybody. It's just not true.

Hiring a good coach does not mean you have to pay him max money before he actually proves he can make it work. How much did they give Meyer at first? Was it top five coach money?

It's not as easy as people think to get well-established coach, because it's that much more difficult to pry them away from their current team. UF, like they have in the past, will end up with a guy who is looking for an upgrade from their current situation. He wont be proven like Spurrier or Harbaugh, but a guy who has big potential and COULD BE the next great coach. That doesn't require Saban money.

I literally haven't seen one person say that uf can get whoever they want.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

If they really wanted Freeze, you dont think they should have offered more than $4.2 million?  That's a fairly easy match for Ole Miss. Offering 5 or 5.5 would have been a little bit steeper of a price.

UF likes to go cheap for some reason.  Most likely because the Foley extended Muschamp through 2016 a few years ago --- his original contract was set to expire this year.

id say that is pretty much what he is worth.  they shouldn't overpay for him considering he just got to Ole Miss and before that he coached at ASU with Mahlzahn's players.

yes, but many "diehard" fans don't know any better.  see Texas last year, for example.

Ok, but to lure the coach you want (I'm assuming he was first choice considering thats the only we've heard) then you better offer a good chunk more than the school that he's currently at, has a connection to players, is from Mississippi.  Hard to lure that guy away for $200k.

they did, but then Ole Miss countered.

Ole Miss countered at 4mm...again, if you really wanted him you better make a better effort.

im fine with Foley not playing this little game with Freeze/Sexton.  Freeze clearly wants to stay in Oxford.  Foley would just be a pawn if he keeps upping the ante.

Quote:Florida needs to up the ante and offer more $$$$. Rumor was they only offered 4.2 mil to Freeze.

No meeting, no offer.

just because UF PR says no offer was made, doesn't mean no offer was made.

either way, the UF job was used as leverage to get Freeze a new deal at Ole Miss.

It's interesting that the "info" came out from sources on Freezes side...could it be possible that he never was offered the job in the first place but leaked the info to get a better deal?
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???
