Nah.  I saw zero nerves in that drive to score the FG at the end -  and he was even attempting to juke defenders on the called QB runs.  (knowing he'd have contact)

He got a little banged up (appraised ankle - bruised shoulder) - and may have needed to protect himself, but I didn't see nerves at all.

Sprained ankle and constant pressure.  Not nerves.  He's pretty icy.

I was going to watch it again tonight.  I'll keep your opinion in mind - and see if I notice any signs of nerves in the first half.  I just don't recall seeing that.

I noticed that once.  He seemed ticked off at the lack of protection after one particular sack.

I got some mechanics for ya...

Quote:Was just watching some film of Bortles during the preseason and my goodness has his mechanics have gotten significantly worse throughout the season. In preseason his footwork looked good, his shoulders were square and there was no big wind up before he threw. The ball had so much more zip.

I'm not sure why his mechanics have regressed so much, but I'm not too worried especially after rewatching his film. The competitor in him is still there and if he puts the work in this offseason, he may explode on to the scene next year.

I brought up mechanics in another thread.  That's what happens when you play a guy you had planned on seasoning a year before putting him in.

You're not working on mechanics as a starting QB, you're installing the offense and game planning.  Such are the drawbacks of starting a guy before you planned to.  It can be ironed out in time, but it will take longer than if they could have focused more on that as the backup.

And on the other hand, if it works... it works.  But refining that will only make him better.

I'd love to see him show that emotion...P Manning lets his line know about it when they don't block.

He'd spend more time yelling at his line then than actually playing the QB position.  :teehee:

The issues with Bortles may have as much to do with the mental part of the game as it does the physical. By this I mean, he always seems to be trying to climb back into games and by this alone, it puts him in a place of pressure to get back into games constantly. Because he is a rookie, his mental game has not developed to the point as say a (Peyton Manning) and that is effecting his performance too. yes, he is making really bad decisions and thee most important thing he MUST STOP DOING is telegraphing his passing and his penchant for throwing into double and triple coverage. If he doesn't purposely change this............it will follow him wherever he goes and he will have a mediocre career as an NFL QB. He reminds me of Christian Ponder who was thrown to the wolves early too whose second season was worse than his rookie season because he didn't FIX the mental part of his game. This could easily happen to Blake Bortles.
