It just depends on perspective. A sack in a losing game is not the same as a win in a losing season - especially if you broaden the frame to the rebuild and not just the season.


Perspective A - "Look at these clowns dancing around like idiots when they're 2 and 10!!"


Perspective B - "Well they finally figured out how to generate a little offense with a bunch of rookies - maybe this is the start of something good."


It's about looking at the win as an important step to a bunch of the guys in the locker room that needed to notch that in their belt and build on it.



Listen to 1:30 to 4:50 in this interview with Marks. It seems like celebrating a win was a good thing for this team to me.

If we happen to win a third game are they gonna jump around and scream too? I see no point in doing so when you have double digit losses for a season. Go in there give a congratulations speech and be done with it. After winning both games it has looked like they won the FIFA World Cup in the locker room.


Maybe after breaking thru with your first win but again after two is uneccessary. If I was Chris Clemons or Red Bryant I would be looking around and saying what in the hell are we celebrating like this for. I have no problem with Branch doing a gesture regardless of the score but a lot of folks here do. I find that funny.

Actually, yes.  In the NFL, a complete rebuild means you need to give the coach a couple of mulligan seasons.  I think 5 years is reasonable to take an expansion team roster (which this was last year) to true Superbowl contender. You should still expect to start seeing progress in the second and third year and if you understand football and don't just look at the won/loss record, you'll see exactly that.  This defense right now is playing pretty well.  No mistake that there's still work to be done yet though.

 

The Jags and Panthers made it in year 2 with expansion teams...

Umm...I don't know why people have to continually say this over and over, but, again, EXPERIENCE. The qb will be better next year because he will learn from his experience and grow from it. The offensive line of Bowanko, Joekel and Linder will take their experience from this season and learn from it. The wide receivers will look back on the season and use their experience to get better next year. That's your foundation. For the love of God. Add in a brand new spanking TE and bolster the o-line by adding competition there. Boom. What's so friggin' mystifying about that? Did you see me praying in front of altar? No, that's my basis. What's your basis for thinking you are rational one? The offense is struggling with a bunch of rookies, therefore #becausejaguars. Why don't you tell me why this offense won't be better next year? Players not plays, friend.

As a side note, you're all over the place with your thoughts...but for what it's worth I hope all of the positive things you mention do happen.

 

Nonethless, by you saying things "will" happen doesn't make it true.  People on here are discussing Jaguars football using observations, stats, analysis, etc. with some informed/educated opinion or projection mixed in.  You are using some crystal ball saying things "will" happen with absolutely no basis other than hope.  I, for one, would love to have that ability or can you send us a link to where you are getting these determinations?

As for the interview (and nothing against Marks)...I would absolutely LOVE my employer if I'm paid well and get to celebrate being nearly one of the worst in the industry.  I would praise my boss all day long but eventually by company would probably go out of business.

That's certainly one way to look at it.  A really miserable way, but still a way to see it.  I just don't share your view.

Those teams also got historically unique advantages, including double draft picks the first couple of years and open selections in an "expansion draft".  They also had the advantage of coming in during an era when teams were just learning how to deal with the salary cap which worked to their advantage since most teams were highly leveraged.  You'll never see anything like that again as the Texans and new Browns discovered.  Last year's Jags team got none of those advantages.

At minimum, no fan should be willing to accept anything less than 8 wins next season.

I feel kinda bad... If we say...win 6 games next season but they are more so spread out and the L's are still close games, I feel like I'd be happy. Buuuuut man I hope we are .500 or better!

I think 5 years in completely reasonable. It took Pete Carroll 4 years and Sean Payton and a veteran Drew Brees 4 years.


Those teams started off miles ahead of where the Jags started.
