2014 College Football Playoff Pairups!

#81

Well I think its apparent they arent picking who the 4 best teams are.  I think Galloway is right.  There is no way you could think TCU was the 3rd best team last week and then drop them to 6 if it was purely based on who is better.  TCU did nothing to make you think they were any worse.  I can see how one would think Ohio St moved past them but not sure how Baylor did as well.

The whole TCU scenario is strange. So last week this committee thinks TCU is better than FSU. And now they go down to sixth.

Rece Davis mentioned it and I think TV viewership and matchup hype plays into it.

If TCU was named Oklahoma or Texas, Ohio St doesn't jump them.

I personally think Oregon is. Much better match up first round for FSU then Bama would of been. Oregon is overrated IMO and the PAC 12 not so hot.

Plus they get a month to prepare.

That helps Ohio State too. Urban used that month in 2008 to destroy Bradford and OU.

Why do people keep harping on non-conference?  If anything this proves non-conference is irrelevant.  If Baylor had gone undefeated, they would have been ranked over FSU.  If FSU had a loss, Baylor would be in and FSU would be out.  And thats with FSU playing 13 power 5 teams and Baylor only playing 9 of them.  Dominating over 9 power teams is more impressive than struggling against 13.  If non-conference mattered, Baylor wouldnt have even been in the discussion.

Non-conference only matters if you start losing game and you need it for building your resume.

I actually dont love the matchup for FSU.  The best way to beat FSU is to blow them out of the water.  I'm not sure Bama has the offense to do that.  Oregon does.

I dont love this matchup for Bama.  Meyer is dangerous when he has a lot of time to prepare.  And while everyone starts talking about their QBs, I'm starting to think these Buckeye QBs are as good as the system is making them.  Its a good scheme.

I think the whole "co-champ" thing hurt TCU. Baylor believes they are true champ, so... i can understand committee siding with undisputed big10 champ Ohio st.

And the Big 12's mantra all year has been, "One True Champion". On billboards all around that region.

Playoff bound and earned our spot. The only unbeaten team in the nation. Oregon will be a good matchup and looking forward to the game. Could be an offensive shootout. Bama and OSU should also be interesting, OSU is a solid all around team with a good defense.

Looks like it is Iowa-Tennessee in the Taxslayer (Gator Bowl). Another dog game for Jacksonville.

I'm a Ohio State self proclaimed HATER, however, they totally impressed me with that win over WISC and also the win over MSU last month.  I'm almost inclined to think the Big 10 fixed the game but there's too much at stake for WISC to buy into a fix --- 59-0 is just plain out crazy !!!

I'll be rooting for OSU and FSU in round 1.  I can honestly say even if both lose, they each had successful seasons.

FSU scheduled OK State, Notre Dame, and Florida as non-conference opponents.  There is no way to know they would all have sub par seasons.  In fact, ND and UF were supposed to have strong comeback type seasons after having their QBs (and other players) go out w/ injuries and a suspension (ND QB) in 2013.

What did he say?

Yeah, finally, after playing 29 scrubs in a row, a real team to play for FSU.

You don't realize how hard it is to play 29 scrubs in a row.

It ain't easy.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Quote:The message from the committee is the Big 12 needs to find a way to have a conference title game.

Of course if there was one, TCU would not get to play in it.

Wrong. Everyone knows Oklahoma and Texas are not nearly as good as they used to be, so neither school ever had a chance to compete for a Big 12 championship. Texas Christian has been a big name in college football since Andy Dalton was there - or at least it seemed that way to me - and I think that is why TCU joined the Big 12 this year.

You obviously missed my point.
