OC Play-Calling VS. Youth/Inexperience/Struggling O-line

#41

Quote:LOL, what?  So the middle of the field which we almost never attack, and which we never have attacked with a RB (from my recognition) is because the players are getting the hang of things now?

You know how players get the hang of things?  Repetition and running the plays!  They don't run many plays up the middle, and hardly ever have an outlet receiver in the middle of the field.

But OK...
So they are supposed to be doing it before they actually learn how to execute the plays.

Yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense.

Yeah, having an outlet reciever in the middle of the field is a difficult concept to grasp...

Quote:Maybe not world class...  But Lee, Hurns, Lewis, and Shoelace all have talent that could be utilized better.

If you give a fry cook really good ingredients, he's still just gonna drop some potatoes and give you french fries...

The talent on this team isn't as bad as the performance we see...

BB5 still only makes 1 read...  1.  He's not going through any progressions...  He really doesn't look any better now than he did 2 and a half months ago.

I know, I know, it's his rookie year...  But he still hasn't put together a full game of good play.  Heck, today, he had 2 really good drives that benefited from a short field.

He's not getting better.  Coaches are paid to make players better.  Where's his improvement?
These are rookies. You can't just plug them in and play them like they are vets. This isn't Madden. Real players have to go through a learning curve.

Quote:Based on what? There are no world class players on this roster right now to judge him by.

If you want to base it on reality, then you go back to how he coached world class players on Seattle's roster. He was pretty freaking good at doing it when he actually had some to work with.

I'm confused, he was the qb coach in Seattle 2010 where they we're 19th in passing, and Hasselbeck was 21st in yards, 43rd in average, 28th in tds and 6th in interceptions.

I'm sorry, but the rookie excuse no longer works for Hurns and Lee.  They are fully integrated into the offense.  BB5, on the other hand still looks like the exact same player he did at the start.  That's on the OC and QB coach as much as it's on the player.

Honestly, tell me what you've seen that he's doing now that he wasn't doing in September/October

Don't give me that madden ad hominem, I haven't played that game in years.  I'm going based off what I see.

Basically if you make a point that players need to play better.... Posters will immediately go to the "madden" thing.

It's when they have nothing to combat your fact.

If you want to go off just what you're seeing, he's not throwing interceptions like he was; in fact the's not throwing into coverage like he was.  He seems to be identifying coverages better although this is something the professionals can tell better than I can.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Being a rookie isn't an excuse, it's a fact.

If you worked at any job that required learning a trade or profession you would understand that experience makes a huge difference as to how well you are able to do a job.

No one becomes a master electrician or plumber in a year and no one will tell you it's an excuse because you can't do your job at that level in that time frame.

It's pretty ignorant to think that there isn't a huge difference between how well a person can do his job after 5-10 years of experience compared to someone in their first year.

You may not play Madden but your touch with reality is about as far apart as real life and a video game.

I guess you confused his time in Seattle with your 2010 madden team.

I'll concede that he's not throwing interceptions at the rate that he was.  And he's not throwing into coverage as often as he was at the beginning of the year.  So yes, I'll give you that.

Thanks for reminding me.

I think it can be legitimately argued that the improvments you've mentioned are marginal at best.  He threw an INT today, a really bad one in which there was a WIDE open Denard running down the middle of the field.  And he still does throw into coverage on occassion.

The point I was making is that there should be some sort of semblance tangible progress.  I'm just not seeing it.  He looks pretty much the same now as he did, with the exception of the small improvement over the last few weeks in regards to the INTs he throws...

Unfortunately receivers don't typically break out until their third year when they have a better grasp of the offense and route running.

And where is Hasselbeck now?

Out of the league?  [BAD WORD REMOVED] if I know, then again I never said Seattle had world class players, and implied he (Fisch) did good in Seattle.

Quote:Really?  Because his play calling has absolutely changed to take advantage of what Bortles can do over what Henne was capable of.

Really? Can you go ahead and run the statistics on that, because aside from the small amount of read options (and I recall Henne running at least one of those early in the season, too) I see a lot of the same thing with Bortles in the game as what the Jaguars were doing with Henne in. Namely bunch formations resulting in either a 3 yard out, a screen, or a sack.

If Fisch continues calling games like this next season then he's done

Fisch is calling the game with the personnel he's got; his offensive line is very limiting to the playbook.

Quote:So spending another season with a bad familiar OC is better than taking the chance on finding a competent one?

You make 2 assumptions. 1, that Fisch is bad. 2, that his replacement will be good. Way too many variables on both premises to make a determination.

Some people blame the play calling. Some just the head coach for some reason lol. Everyone just wants a quick fix. Ain't gonna happen. Gotta work for it, which entails sticking to the plan.

I'd think by this point of the season, the offense should be showing signs of clear improvement, but unfortunately it hasn't been the case. There really hasn't been an upward trend as the season has progressed.

Well that's why I said a chance at finding, not that you will find one, but you will never find one sitting on your hands.
