Honestly, I'm having a hard time seeing Mariota going 1st overall for one big reason: his game might not translate to the pros. Admittedly, i havent watch many of his games, but for the games i did watch, I just not confident in his game in the pro.

He has way more baggage than manziel. The heisman, national championship, and size work in his favor.


Plenty of articles have inside sources saying Winston is off their draft boards completely. Then you factor in how utterly average he's been all year.


Doesn't seem like a recipe for top ten, especially first overall draft stock.

I still think Winston will have success, but I could see the fate of Ponder and Manuel causing teams to start to think "system QB" for FSU and move him down accordingly. I'm not liking our odds of trading down anymore. Even if someone falls in love with Mariota or Winston, we need multiple teams interested (and probably obviously interested) to drive a trade.

 

I doubt one game has that big an impact on their draft stock.

Scouts will probably only focus on the the tape where Winston is under pressure and doesn't have an 8 second pocket. This is the Winston you will see in the NFL, and that isn't worthy of a top 2 pick.

In a way, we usually hype up a certain pospect as "cant miss" or something close to it. But by the time evaluation starts and film study begins, that's when that prospect falls down the draft board more and more each day i.e. Teddy Bridgewater.


Once they study Mariota's and also come to realize that the atheltic, spread option QB (Kaepernick) might not work in the long run, they'll go in a different direction.

No, it will take more than just one game. They were VERY close heading into the season, and this year Mariotta has been clearly ahead of Winston...and that's without factoring in the off-field issues that JW's had.

 

There's questions about Marcus' game, but as we've seen in past draft history...NFL loves QBs with good arm, good size, and in Mariotta's case...break a defense's back-speed.

We all know about Winston's immaturity and off field issues. And compare to the standard he set last year, he has a "down" year statistically. He's not a finished product as shown by his many interceptions, but those are correctable problem with mire experience. But even then, he still performs really well when it matters most, especially with how he didnt let any distrations affect his game.

One factor I have to consider is the current domestic issue in the NFL. And that is probably the biggest factor as to whether or not he will be the first QB picked.
