I don't agree with Eric but I will point that in almost all cases the local and state governments put more into a major league sports team than they ever get out of it. Stadiums are expensive and you can only tax so much until the voters turn on you.


Having said that in the case of Jacksonville there are tons of indirect and non financial benefits to having an NFL team. Without the Jags Jacksonville would be little more than the last stop on I-95 before Georgia.

I was reading somewhere that the shipyards are a dead project... apparently land between the stadium and the mattews bridge on down talyram is heavily contaminated to the point it can not be developed for long time...some epa stuff... from my understanding, it's the property near the big tanks and all the a joining shipyards on the other side of the railroad track.

Where did you read that at? From my understanding, there were a few projects before Khan's arrival that were already greenlighted but fell thru for one reason or another.

The land from the Mathews Bridge all the way down Talleyrand has nothing to do with the shipyards project.  The shipyard project goes from the Hart Bridge at Metro Park almost all the way up to Bergman Plaza.  There are no EPA issues there.  Only a lack of vision and funding.  Khan's plans are the most likely of many proposals to actually come to fruition.

I say I read, but this is what my friends father, who was a initial developer and property owner of the train cars lot and also owns a trucking company down , who was telling me this, he apparently tryed to buy a rv lot close to the train tracks and the tanks and that was the deal that came up.... but as ftb saod, it's kinda a moot point if they are planning on developing west of the mattews.
