Cyprien a bust?

Quote:Players other than cornerbacks are allowed to break up passes and even intercept them.If he has 90 tackles and leads the team, and he is also missing a "lot", then that's a heck of a lot of runners getting past the linebackers. Quote:If he has 90 tackles and leads the team, and he is also missing a "lot", then that's a heck of a lot of runners getting past the linebackers. That's true. Our poor LB play is widely documented. It needs to get upgraded. That doesn't excuse Cyprien's poor play though.

I'm not surprised at zero sacks. With our DL being the strongest and deepest unit on the team, we're not blitzing that much. Pretty sure Gus wants to lean heavily on the front four. When we add Gregory or Leonard, that'll help set up our DL for the longterm. There is something wrong with the back 7 though. All these sacks, but the INTs aren't adding up as they should be
Quote:Cyprien is NOT a cornerback. OMG. He is mostly playing run support. He had 5 tackles Sunday, JT thomas had 5, Telvin Smith had 5.Someone gets it! ![]()
I actually think, for their age, we have decent corners, but with all the illegal contact calls turning Football into Futbol 1st downs for everyone but us, Our guys can't compete for the ball w/o risking an automatic 1st down. CB has changed. Its their job to chase the WR's and hope the QB over throws him now.
I ain't no monkey... I'm an ape.

I'll say it again. Cyprien is all hype. Never understood the hype, but its all he is.
Gene's Myth
Quote:But he isnt a FS? Earl Thomas is a FS. Polamalu (overrated) is a SS. Cyp is a SS. Honestly. Cyp is playing exactly how "overrated" is playing now. Everyone wants Cyp to play how "overrated" has played for those 2 seasons.
If you think I offended you, don't worry, I meant to. #facts

They use him as an extra LB so im not surprised he doesn't get interceptions. He did pretty well covering Gates in man coverage. I think hes ok. We badly need a FS
I don't know why people expected this guy to be a ballhawk. If you were expecting him to pick off 5 passes a game, then you were looking for something that wasn't there. Cyp is a tackler/enforcer who is best suited to play in the box. Once we get an actual FS, then he will be able to play the position he was meant to play.

Quote:I don't know why people expected this guy to be a ballhawk. Because he had like 1 highlight reel INT in college. Off of Bridgewater I think it was. People somehow expected such a low INT number in college to translate to a big INT number in the pro's for whatever reason. Bradley echoed similar sentiment in a presser a few days ago. The lack at FS is glaring. Cyprien's role is often not a flashy one. Sure he's made some mistakes, but not to the degree that the bashers let on. Expectations are not only high but misplaced. I expect him to get better - and better play at FS, OTTO and MLB will only help him to play more disciplined within his role.
Can you stop. He's a safety. He's expected to make plays. Kam Chancellor plays the exact same role as Cyprien, go check out what he's doing in Seattle. Cyprien makes no plays, routinely gets shrugged off by ballcarriers and overruns his assignments. He is a bad safety. Jonathan Cyprien is bad at football. The sooner you accept that the sooner you will find inner peace.

Um, those stats are still far superior to Cyprien. And the year before and the year before and the year before?
Quote:Wait, so Cyprien, drafted as high as he was, isn't supposed to be a big play, impact player? Nope, 33rd picks are supposed to be in-the-box players who can't stop the run. Um, Kam in his worst season is still far better than anything Cyprien has ever done. I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
Like this is the same as Bortles. Jaguars fans have watched the Jaguars for so long that so many have forgotten what good football players actually look like, and how far players like Cyprien are from actually being productive NFL starters.
