2015 looks to be the perfect year for the Jaguars to draft a running back

Gordon gets through a hole incredibly fast. What a difference Taylor and Drew made when they were in their prime. But then the Jaguars had an OL that could open holes. I just don't see our current OL opening holes for our RB. It's kind of a catch 22.

I realize the team will probably draft a DE if the right one is available, but I would not be adverse to drafting Collins (FS) or Gordon (RB).

God yes, that guy can score from anywhere on the field.

I'll take any of the top 6. We need a RB that can make linebackers cringe upon impact... DRob is not that guy. Look at Eddie Lacy...He is what the Saints thought Mark Ingram would be.

2015 looks to be a really strong year for running backs.

As of now, CBS Sports has 11 backs with third round grades or better. It should be a great time for the team to improve this position in the second night of the draft.

Denard Robinson has shown to be a capable back in this league. But he has not shown he is capable of getting those tough yards, nor was he expected to do so. So I think they will look to add a back with size.

Below are the current rankings according to CBS. Almost all are underclassmen, so this can change.

 1. Melvin Gordon Wisconsin rJr 6-1 207
 2. Todd Gurley Georgia Jr 6-1 226
 3. Ameer Abdullah Nebraska Sr 5-9 195
 4. Tevin Coleman Indiana Jr 6-0 210
 5. Duke Johnson Miami (Fla.) Jr 5-9 206
 6. T.J. Yeldon Alabama Jr 6-2 221
 7. Mike Davis South Carolina Jr 5-9 223
 8. Jay Ajayi Boise State rJr 6-0 216
 9. Javorius Allen Southern California rJr 6-1 220
 10. Jeremy Langford Michigan State rSr 6-0 205
 11. David Cobb Minnesota Sr 5-11 229

I disagree that Denard hasn't shown to get tough yards. He's gotten plenty of tough yards this season, especially given how bad this OL has been. He doesn't shed a lot of blocks, but what he does do is he seems to have the ability to angle his body so the defense doesn't always get a clean hit on him, allowing him to squeeze in and pick up an extra 1-2 yards.

I'm not handing him the starting job next season (though he'll have inside track), but I really don't want to spend a pick on a RB until 3rd or 4th round at the earliest.

Lacy also had a tough going early in the year when that Packers OL was struggling. Its easier to find good RBs late in the draft than it is to find good OLs. If both players are equally graded, I think we have to go OL early on and take the RB later.

Of the above?

Gordon, Duke Johnson or Davis.

I agree Tevin Coleman in Rd 2 looks to be a value selection for his talent.

Excellent point. I'm not saying it would be dumb to draft a RB in the 2nd round but you can find good starting RBs in later rounds. RT, DE, FS, LB, and TE are all bigger needs than RB too IMO.

Good point. Problem is you never know if you are getting an Ingram or a Lacy. So much depends on your o-line and your QB.

There are so many good runners who just need to be in the right place at the right time (i.e., Justin Forsett).

I wouldn't draft one before the third. If/when the Jaguars roster improves then maybe a first or second rounder.

I really like Denard, but I think he's best suited as a COP back. I think RB is very much still a need going into this draft. If the value matches up when we're picking in the 2nd or 3rd round, then I have no problem with it.

Coleman for his explosiveness, a true home-run hitter.

Duke Johnson for his versatility. He is sneaky in between the tackles.

Not really high on anyone else really. Those two have popped out in my mind.

Gordon is on the fence, impressive stats for sure, but I still don't know what to think.

I agree. Denard certainly has an important role in this offense going forward. But I do not think it is or should be "feature RB". He's just not built for that for the long haul. But they absolutely should be getting him 15 touches a game whether it be to spell the starting RB, or on screens, wildcat, and what not. Denard is best in space. A good OC would have a field day with a player like him.

It just depends on who is there. You don't force it but you certainly do not pass in the off chance you might be able to get one later. And with free agency being first, some of the other needs you mentioned are likely to be filled.

Tevin Coleman shows insane rare long speed in that clip, I'm praying the Jags select him in the 2nd.

I've spent the afternoon watching highlight-films of all those players (yes, I know that's not the most scientific way of doing this, and it would be better to watch full games, but that's not easily done over here !). And I was very impressed by David Cobb. Most of the others seem to be able to slip tackles and sprint clear (in a style similar to DRob) but a lot of Cobb's clips seemed to involve him battering his way through tackles. And if we are essentially looking for someone to take the place of Gerhart as a contrast to Robinson, then that might be useful.

Ok, a Gurley or a Gordon might be more talented, but if we are looking for a bargain later on, he could be worth a look ? Anyone else think he has potential ? Or disagree with my slightly simplistic assessment ?

If any of those top 10 listed are still around in the 4th round I'd be all about it. Otherwise I'd rather we draft big guys. Oline could still use some work.

We have to get one of these top RBs. Coleman, Gurley, Gordon, or Johnson preferably.
