Has Bortles improved the past 3 weeks?
|
His decision making seems to be getting better, there were no throws that made me facepalm and even his INT was just throwing it up for grabs on the last play so it doesn't matter at all. He also seemed to be more aggressive downfield and is giving his WRs the chance to make plays.
His pocket presence has gotten noticeably worse. Yes the OL is bad and is allowing way too much pressure but Bortles is handling it poorly as well. The worrying thing to me is his accuracy, multiple times in the last couple of weeks he's missed open receivers downfield from a clean pocket. He's also been off on some easy short throws including the bubble screens we know and love. One would hope that another offseason working on footwork and mechanics would help in cleaning up some of those issues. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Agreed with the above. His footwork and mechanics have regressed, which was the whole reason they were going to redshirt him this year. His decision making has improved quite a bit I think also, which is a very good sign.

John Oehser explained it is a rollercoaster and just being a rookie, not regression, that makes him look worse at times. Quote:Not to debate Fisch here since there's about 100 other threads doing just that, but Bortles was a little off on a couple of near touchdowns. How is that play calling? That's being inaccurate and probably due to what is a known issue, his footwork. You're going to be hard-pressed to win this debate with those who want to see someone fired. The fact that they missed on those plays due to a breakdown in execution is irrelevant. Someone must be fired! Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

But look at the stats of us in at the 10 yard line, its more playcalling then BB5 missing a reciever. Quote:Thank God TMD is banned for life. Please don't bring God into this. Thank you
Quote:Yeah, Fisch should really think about stretching the field and sending the speed receivers deep. It's not like there's any pressure forcing them to call quick plays to get the ball out or anything. Bortles has all day to stand back there and let plays develop. He's just not being allowed to do so because of that darned Jedd Fisch. Are you stupid? I understand where you're coming from... a mediocre line calls for quick/ west coast type passing plays. That being said, there are plenty of ways to work around a crappy O Line and still get the ball deep. its called utilizing the running game, play action, bootlegs, and deep shotgun drops. Quit acting like your opinion is so top notch. Fisch's play calling is often monotonous and predictable, and is the wrong formula for this team to score, as is shown by our lack of offensive production. Try again Quote:Are you stupid? We haven't tried play action, bootlegs, or deep shotgun drops at all in the past 3 weeks. Do you actually watch the games, or just dream about them and cook up your own scenarios? As far as Fisch's play calling being monotonous and predictable, so is the play calling for pretty much all of the NFL. Execution is the difference between success and failure, and if you don't actually know the play that was called vs. what transpires on the field, you really can't say whether the issue is play calling or the poor execution on the field. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Can we at least get TMD back on loaner for the offseason, this board dies down pretty quick pre draft.
Quote:You're going to be hard-pressed to win this debate with those who want to see someone fired. The fact that they missed on those plays due to a breakdown in execution is irrelevant. Someone must be fired! Nine rookies are starting and/or rotating in on the offense for eleven positions. As Phil Simms(?) said, you know what happens when you play so many young players? You lose. Why did he say that? Because young players make mistakes, and a league of star veterans will make you pay for every single one. Experience can be a hard learned lesson. We can only hope that learning happens. Lord knows we've lost plenty of games, at least squandered opportunities, due to mistakes.

Quote:The not scoring is on playcalling not QB performance. I think he has gotten better at somethings but still needs some work on reading defenses and making quicker decisions. How can you say it's not scoring isn't on the qb? Who is out there throwing the ball then? A goo reason we're not scoring is his fault.
Quote:I'm not one of those guys. I'm not running around with pitchforks and torches saying we need to scrap the offensive line. You'll have to direct those questions to the people who participate in that discussion. There are multiple threads to pick from.Yes! they need to make a leap like Joeckyl, Cyprien, and Gratz did! Then we will have a possible non-losing record, I don't know why the rest of the board can't be smart like us brother! You and me, we're the real fans! This is all part of the process. Caldwell was clear from the start. The cupboard was bare. Blake was supposed to sit. I just don't know why people don't get it! ![]() Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link!
