Steve Smith on Mike & Mike: "you're going to hear some good things about the Jacksonville Jaguars"

Quote:If someone compliments the Jaguars

Optimists:"See. We told y'all were improving!"

Pessimists:"He's just saying that to play nice. He didn't mean it!"

Someone disses the Jaguars.

Optimists:"What does he know? Nobody respects us!"

Pessimists:"Even the media sees that we stink!"

Do I have this correct?
Sad but true.  It's impossible to appreciate the fact that there are areas where the team might be getting better because there are those incapable of seeing anything but the W-L record. I understand their frustration, but that usually comes from a lack of perspective.  The team is coming from a very deep hole and trying to rebound.  They're doing this in a very unique way that's never really been tried before in the league, and it's a painful process.  Hopefully the recognition by others that the team is headed in the right direction will turn into more wins than losses in the very near future.  If not, we start all over again.

Quote:Considering we held a top 5 rushing attack to under 100 yards and one of the top 3 running backs in the league to 48 yards and held their offense to 10 points until they got one more FG in garbage time. If you dont think that is lights out dude learn some football.

So now we are using "garbage time" to justify the "lights out" title. Got it.

We get it, TMD Jr.  You don't see it.

You just skip over everything he said to argue something so subjective like "garbage time." The defense played well, real well. If special teams didn't score for them the score would be a lot closer

First instinct is to throw an unnecessary insult when you don't have a valid answer. You see, I'm a stats guy. Jaguars are 28th in overall defense. 21st in passing defense, and 27th in rush defense.

Here is what you do. I will help you. Take off your teal shades, read those stats, then show me where "lights out" falls in there.

Thank you.

Edit: I tried to filter these stats to exclude "garbage time", but NFL.com didn't offer that option.

Ok ill bite.

The game we just played the defense played lights out. you with me so far. the stats for this game show we played lights out defense. still with me. the over all stats for the season do not equate to one game. and sacks do not determine how good or how bad the defense played.

Thanks for playing buhbye.

Since everyone says it, I guess it must be untrue.  Wait, what?

I'm not a stats guy but I base my opinions on what I see.

What I see is a defense that plays hard and is very respectable, on the verge of being very good with a few more playmakers in key spots and a bit of experience sprinkled in for good measure. There have been some respectable, quantifiable defensive accomplishments during this season that for most of last year were woefully absent. I can't help but believe this may be a case where the numbers don't tell the whole tale.

Just sayin'

You admitted you rather play golf than watch the games on Sunday. Just shut up. You are wasting everyone's time with your mindless trolling.

Carry on.

Formulating an opinion based on what you're actually seeing and not just based on stats?  That won't fly for TMD Jr.

Throw out stats. Got it.

We were 5th overall in 2013 in total defense and we are 28th as of right now. #improvement

Care to compare the defensive "stats" of the first three games, to the last three games?

To level-set, I'm not "siding" with the "lights out" argument, just curious to know if you see a difference.

Numbers can get confusing for those "stat guys" after working a long hard day in an apron.

Quote:Not sure about some of the sarcasm above.

This team does have some really promising young players. Caldwell has improved the talent/ potential on this team every offseason.

I think this team is poorly coached. I think some of the talent is suffering from poor development. It's why I don't understand some of the commentary that suggests that people like Fisch/ Mallory/ Babich etc, need more time. No, they don't. More time is only going to be a hinderance, not a help. Bortles, being the most important player that is suffering from the status quo.

So based on the stats you agree Cyprien is our best player on defense?
