My Beef With Leonard Williams

#21

He reminds a bit of what Alualu was talked up to be when he was drafted; high motor, versatile, and can get after the quarterback. Obviously he's a better prospect than Tyson and he's somebody you can just plug and play on defense and expect success. It's going to be a very good draft for D-linemen.

To me he is Calais Campbell, and Campbell would be a huge boost to any defense.

I don't think we have to worry about it anymore though, I think we are probably looking at Shane Ray as the best prospect that will likely be available when we pick now...which is fine Ray would be a very good LEO.

I don't understand this. Surely you can't think he is an elite 1st step guy. I don't see it.

I am not sold on Gregory either.

Thing is, there are a lot of snaps in a game. Considering our starters are already quite good, adding in another very good player into the rotation will only do good things.

Quote:Remember when the Giants were still drafting DEs in the first round despite having pro-bowlers at the position? DL is a spot you can never have too many good players.

Exactly.

I like Gregory, remember he's still very raw and does a lot that really needs to get tightened up. I think he's really going to benefit from the coaching for combine prep and I think he's going to live up to his top-5 billing come draft time. I love that he can bring a lot of tools to the position.

If you want speed at the edge, look no further than Alvin Dupree- he's going to light up the combine and has played well this season, if still a bit raw himself. He MIGHT be there in the 2nd but I wouldn't count on it.

Gregory, our future LEO. Makes too much sense.

Jordan has 1 sack and 16 tackles for a 2nd year player who was drafted 3rd overall. Their only pass rush move is an outside speed rush and they get demolished in the run game how is that not garbage?

Ray was more productive this year at Missouri than Jordan was his entire career at Oregon. Jordan was the classic workout warrior.

It's not how productive they are its how they play

thats kind of the opposite of how it works. it doesnt matter how they play, all that matters is that they produce.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

What has grabbed my attention most is, I didn't know the word beef was still used this way.

And it is clear you have not watched Ray play.

I liked Jordan as a prospect, I thought the biggest issue was they didn't use him correctly.  I have more hope for Joeckel than him now though.

I couldn't compare the two prospects.  Ray seems much more built to play OLB/DE/LEO and a better prospect in my mind than Jordan.

I saw an article on NFL.com where Ray was compared to Terrell Suggs. I'll take that here
