Shane Ray: Could he be our Mr. LEO?
|
It seems like since Caldwell/Bradley have arrived, we have heard alot about LEO. The team went with retreads like Jason Babin last year with little success. This year, Chris Clemons has given the team a burst but he is 33 years old and won't be here much longer. This year is setting up to be the year the team goes after LEO. With the Jags hovering around the first overall pick the name we keep hearing is Randy Gregory. I think Shane Ray is the guy to keep an eye on.
A junior, Ray has 18.5 career sacks and 32 career tackles for loss. Some will say that that other players have put up similar numbers. But while Michael Sam was a productive player at Missouri, he is nowhere near the athlete Ray is showing to be. Sam ran a 4.9 40 yard dash at the combine this past spring, Ray has been clocked at 4.4 to 4.5 in the 40. http://www.columbiatribune.com/blogs/beh...b2370.html Aldon Smith put up similar numbers one of his years at Missouri. Has a similar skillset and has 44 sacks in 46 career games. Mel Kiper had this to say. Quote:
Earlier Thursday morning on ESPN’s SportsCenter, NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. discussed his potential No. 1 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.
http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/mizzou-...nfl-draft/ Seems like a perfect fit for this defense. I'm just glad we have options that are good options. The Joeckel draft left us with just trying to pick smart. Shane Ray, Randy Gregory, Leonard Williams, and Dante Fowler are all great rushers and options for the Leo that are worth a top 10 selection. Vic Beasley could fall as a result
Yes he is a perfect fit for our defense IMO. Would be in consideration if Williams and Gregory are gone when we pick.
This is a really good year for pass rushers from what I've heard, which despite how good our line has played this year, is very much a need going forward. We need youth badly
I'll take him right now. Like the way he plays; looks like he's trying to kill the quarterback.

Quote:LEO. OTTO. All I know is Ray is a playmaker.I like him too. Here's the CBSsports breakdown (he's their 9th overall prospect at the moment) : Quote:STRENGTHS: Extraordinary athlete who reportedly has been clocked at 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash, has a 40-plus-inch vertical, 10-foot broad jump and bench presses over 400 pounds.
And he is ejected. Wow.
You see that type of hit in almost every NFL game.

And then you see a flag and a fine. I think the NFL is more protective of QBs than college is. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.
Quote:And he is ejected. Wow. That is a huge loss for MIssouri and the timing could not be much worse. I hate that ejection rule because it is excessive punishment and don't think it will affect how NFL scouts view him as a tackler. We show less advertisements to registered users. Not surprising. Ray likely to enter the draft.

Gonna wait till the combine before I pick between Ray and Gregory. We all know Gregory will be a beast at the combine but from what I hear Ray should put up great numbers also.
