What Do You See..

#1

What do you see as our biggest needs this offseason and how do you think we address them? For example, the obvious one is right tackle. Do you see us trying to get the free agency route or the draft? That kind of thing. Fire away.

TE, FS, and OT stand out to me. Which is unfortunate because, at least preliminarily, this looks to be a good draft for pass rushers.

With tight end, I think the only solution this year is Julius Thomas, unless you think Funchess is a TE (which I think he might be). Otherwise you'll need to find some good hidden talent in the latter rounds, which Caldwell is certainly capable of.

With FS, it's tough also. The idea of Rahim Moore has been tossed around, but I don't know much about him. I also haven't scouted the safeties in this class. It looks like the only good one is Collins though.

With OT there's Bulaga then the crowd. I think the solution there would be in the draft, but once again I haven't looked at tackles yet.

I posted my mock off-season in the other thread, but I'll post it again here. In FA, the Jags need to address the O-Line, the TE position, and FS. The draft I think would be best if used gathering talent/depth in the trenches on both sides.

Free Agency:

Julius Thomas, TE - I think Caldwell's going to push hard for this guy during the off-season, him coming here would be a dream come true.

Brian Bulaga, RT - This position needs upgrading, big time. Bulaga is the guy for the job.

Devin McCourty, FS - A good player who is young but also has a lot of experience already in the NFL. Would be really good to have around here.

In review, I think this would be an excellent free agency if these players, or even one or two of them, were able to be brought in. All are productive and experienced guys on winning teams, starters the Jags really need.

Draft:

Round One: Randy Gregory, DE

Round Two: Arie Kouandijo, G - A guy who could potentially replace Beadles this year or next, one of the best inside run blockers coming out and could develop into a quality starter.

Round Three: Hau'Oli Kikaha, DE/LB - Played DE in college, but is more of the size for a player in Gus's OTTO position. Really good pass rusher, and I think he'd be a steal at this point in the draft. I see him falling due to size concerns. Area of concern would be coverage, but he has decent speed and agility and with practice he could become solid in this area.

Round Four: Chaz Green, T - Was a solid overall player for UF, would add good depth to the line and has the talent to become a good player.

Round Five: Amarlo Herrara, MLB - Productive player who's a good run stopper, odds of finding him in the fifth are relatively low, but possible all the same. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. Could become a good starter down the line, if not another good depth player.

Round Six: Kevin White, CB - Competition for the the on the fence guys going into next season. Could be a good fit at nickel if one of the young guys don't pan out. Insurance pick, also can contribute in ST's down the line.

Round SevenAustin Blythe, C - Depth Acquisition to the O-line. Competition for McClendon.

This draft would add lots of talent to the O-Line and the Front 7, two points on the team that are not only suffering from lack of talent, but lack of depth as well. These selections would add both.

The other 2 positions we need to take a look at the top of the draft is MLB and RB. I'm hoping this will finally be the year we can get a trade back. Would love it if we can get 3 guys out of the 2nd. Get an extra 2nd with ou treade back from the 1st and trade back up into the 2nd with our 3rd and 5th. McKinney or Perryman, Gurley or Coleman, and Holliman. Love all those guys and take Shaq Thompson in the 1st with our trade back and fix the RT and TE in free agency

I want a veteran RT and TE out of free agency so they can come in right away and help Bortles and this young offense

For those that study such things and consider themselves a student of free agency budgets, I would like to know the approximate amount of money that the Jaguars must spend in free agency this year.  Obviously, this is a highly technical and advanced subject but I'm hoping someone give a "back of the envelope" hypothesis.

Thank you in advance,

I agree 100% on getting a MLB. I love Kendricks' athleticism but I want Perryman bad. He's physical and punishing on running backs. McKinney does a solid job moving forward, but I'm not sure how I feel about him in coverage.

The top priorities are obvious: right tackle, free safety, and backup offensive lineman. How to get them is another matter.

I would love to sign Bryan Bulaga in FA and draft a right tackle to be his backup. Why keep Austin Pasztor if we can find a rookie with a higher ceiling? If we miss out on the Bulaga sweepstakes, I want to get the right tackle in an early round.

If we can get the opposite of Landin Collins - a natural free safety who is also good at strong safety - I would be a happy Jaguars fan. But versitility is more important for backups. For the starting job, I want a guy who only played free safety.

Speaking of versitility, why should we get a backup center who never played guard or a backup guard who never played center? If a draft prospect is good at both center and guard, I would love to have him for OL Jacques McClendon's job.

We should try to get guys who will win and sign autographs and donate lots of money and help Blake Bortles be more like Peyton Manning. Duh !
