How Do We Improve As A Team?
|
Just thinking out loud here.
If we want to build through the draft and that takes a while how are we going to retain quality players who will want to go to winning teams to give themselves a chance to win a Super Bowl? Do you think that we are going to be able to retain Shorts or Blackmon after their rookie deals if we don't improve dramatically; how will we be able to attract any key free agents when we are in the basement year after year? Name a star free agent that we have signed in the last 5 years; how about a star player that we drafted in the last 5? While I like some of your optimism about the new leadership, I say we have less than a 10% chance of even making the playoffs in the next 5 years due to the turnover that will come as better quality players move on to other teams. We relax and give them more than 3 games to right the ship after turning over half the roster.

I'm not sold on Bridgewater. Other than the FL game last year what has he done against ranked schools?
Louisville plays high school teams week after week. I think Brett Hundley would be a better choice, at least he plays against better competition. Quote:I'm not sold on Bridgewater. I'm not going to even pretend I know which QB to take in the draft, heck in 2010 I thought Gabbert was going to be the best QB of the class (shows what I know) I just want them to take the best one, I'll have to wait and trust their ability to scout QB's.
I just know I didn't like any of the QB's coming out this year, I'm happy we avoided what I'm sure will be train wrecks down the road. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I'm not sold on Bridgewater. Other than the FL game last year what has he done against ranked schools? Lol. Hundley is overrated and not even in Bridgewater's class. If you don't understand why everyone on the planet has Teddy as the consesus #1 QB in college, than you are not qualified to make these observations.

There is only one way the Jaguars improve. They must get a franchise quarterback. PERIOD.
Or a franchise constant pressure Pass Rusher. They both matter.

Quote:It's called drafting your franchise QB. Not rocket science. /thread
Welcome to Duval, you will be hit.
Teddy appears to be the most complete Qb right now, there will be a lot of questions come combine time. Boyd, McCarron, Mariotta (if he declares), Fales, Thomas, Morris, Murray, Carr and Morris will give a lot of options to look at.
Vagrant- we all know you are very pro-Teddy, I dont believe that he is the consensus #1 QB like you make him out to be. There are many scouts out there that think Boyd is just as good, same with Manziel if he wasnt an idiot off the field. That being said, I prefer Teddy, Boyd, McCarron/Mariotta in that order but picked in the proper rounds.

The only scouts who think Boyd is just as good as Bridgewater are Clemson alum. And I actually started one of the first "What about Boyd" threads last season and everyone basically posted that he wasn't that good. This was before he decided to go back to Clemson for his senior year. I don't think people understand my train of thought. I did not fall for Bridgewater and then wish he was good. If you dig deep you will actually find posts towards the end of last season where I was critical of him and worried about waiting another year to get a QB. Then I watched full cuts of every single game he played in last season. And not only that, but he is actually BETTER this season than last. He is putting up much better numbers with far less effort. He is one of the few QB prospects I have watched where I thought "Wow that kid looks like he's an NFL QB playing in college waiting to go back to the NFL."

Quote:Step one would be retain talent at a position until you find an upgrade for that position. You gotta let this go buddy. You are complaining about a new GM taking over a 2-14 team and not keeping enough players.
Quote:Just thinking out loud here. No chance of us ever escaping the basement? Obviously that is not true, because other teams have been through the same thing and managed to improve and become playoff teams. I think you need to examine your thinking a little bit, because if I follow you correctly, you seem to think that a bad team has no chance of ever becoming a good team.
1. Draft a QB. Pray he isnt another franchise "cant miss" like Jamarcus Russell. Or blows out his hip in the 2nd practice.
For everyone thinking all is sunny because some Hotshot college QB will be here next year, remember there are no guarantees. 2. Draft 2 guards and 2 centers. Must bench press 450 pounds, move his feet like Boselli, and have some serious attitude problems. No nice guys need apply for the interior of the line. The refs cant see guards anyway in all the action, so we need someone fairly despictable. In fact, open try outs should be held immediately at prisons around the country for men expecting a release in the next 8 months. Mr.Khan can play this up to the newspapers as his attempt to "Give men a second chance at life". Everyone needs love and a second chance, right? 3. Draft a tight end that won the Mackey award, runs like Bo Jackson, avoids tackles like Aaron Hernandez, but with a little more brains, If no suitable football players are available, Remember the NBA only has so many slots, so there are a ton of power forwards on the street that may work great. Lets get creative. 4 Very important- The Next Free agency, BUY the most expensive Corner and Safety available. If a guy is under 30 years of age and has more than 1 pro bowl on their resume, bid, bid, then bid some more. Bid until it hurts Mr.Khan. That cap space thing, it means you can spend up to that amount. Cap Space is not the distance between a bumper and a car frame. You have money, spend it on some established young pro bowlers. That's it, a one year turnaround to respectability, and a championship in 3 years. (Mr.Khan, send my interim GM check ASAP please. I have car repairs to make! ) |
