Jimbo Fisher gets a new contract

He had square pegs trying to fit them into round holes.

His record before Winston started a game was 31-10, That includes one ACC championship and another runner up. Since then he has gone 27-0 with two more ACC titles, one national title and an upcoming appearance in the first playoff.

Just take a look at his recruiting classes since he took over.

2010: Terrence Brooks, Cam Erving, Christian Jones, Lamarcus Joyner, Telvin Smith, Bjoern Werner

2011: Kelvin Benjamin, Tank Carradine, Devonte Freeman, Rashad Greene, Bobby Hart, Tim Jernigan, Nile Lawrence Stample, Josue Matías, Nick O'Leary, James Wilder, Karlos Williams

2012: Robert Aguayo, Chris Casher, Ronald Darby, Mario Edwards, Eddie Goldman, Reggie Northrup, Menelik Watson, PJ Williams, Jameis Winston

Aside from Nick Saban, nobody in the country can touch his resume since he took over.

Unless his coaching style drastically changed (which I doubt, he is the same guy) I wasn't that impressed. And Jimbo was part of the 'toilet' years at the end of Bowden, he had full reign back then. How quickly folks forget.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Quote:I don't think his opinion is that far off.  FSU weren't world beaters during the Manuel/Ponder area.  It took a pretty darn good quarterback to put them over the top (as in most cases).

It's a crap shoot to find that next qb in the NFL and college.  He has to recruit the best qb to fit his system, and then hope he turns out.
I agree.

Exactly my point.

Yes he did, as some posters have completely forgotten. He was part of the problem back in the day. To say otherwise is to show ignorance.

The point was that he was there before he 'officially' took over for several years. You can't just say those years didn't count. He had full reign.

Still theres no denying he did a great job recruiting. And that is definitely worth something at the college level.

Maybe, but it sure felt like he wasn't anything special. Of course, I always knew EJ Manual wasn't good anyhow, so I guess I should cut him a break on that. Either way I won't be the one putting any money on a repeat national title after Winston leaves in the next couple years.

No one has ever said he didn't have full reign of the offense when he was an assistant. To say he was a problem back then is laughable. The talent he had to work with when he arrived at FSU was god awful.

Then why were there so many on this board wanting him to be fired?  If only I could pull up the threads from the old board.

Jimbo Fisher brought FSU football back to life. He's snagging in top recruits all over the states and Europe.  Jimbo Fisher is a great coach and even better man. God bless coach Fisher!

If I were an FSU fan I would say that now as well.  There was a thread in particular on this board where numerous current board members wanted him gone.

I would forget about that part of Jimbo's history as well if I were an FSU fan.

Edit:  Look at many of the comments of this article.  This board was very similar after this game and during that offseason.  http://www.tomahawknation.com/2012/10/7/...th-podcast

Someone please tell me this only happened after the loss and it was because emotions were high.  Please.

What exactly are we trying to say here? Hold on...you actually mean to tell me that fans over react and vent on message boards to fire coaches??? No way! Lol c'mon man there will always be knee jerk reaction fans but as a whole the FSU nation is very happy Jimbo will be around for a long time. Get used to seeing us at the top. Big Grin

Yes, because fans here wanted Jimbo gone.  Every FSU fan on this board has said that didn't happen here....many of the people that now love Jimbo were here saying they wanted him to be fired.

The same people here that said they wanted Winston to leave FSU all the sudden love him again.

It proves the fact that winning cures all.  No matter what your perception of a player is, that as long as he keeps winning you will defend him until the end.

Fans opinions are normally useless. I remember many FSU fans, bashing Fisher after the tough loss to NC State. Losses hurt and victories make us all giddy. I'm a huge fan of the Noles. The down years were not fun, but I stuck through.  Anyways, fans say a lot, but say nothing of importance.

Only an idiot wanted Fisher fired. Most of FSU fans wanted him to give up his play calling duties and focus on just being a head coach.

I remember people saying that he shouldn't be offensive coordinator.  I do not remember people saying they wanted him fired.  Being frustrated with play calling or the coach is not the same as those saying they wanted him gone.  If people did say that then they were in the minority.
