The Number One Need For The Jaguars In The Draft Is _____________!
|
DE Williams is not going to replace Red Bryant on the 53 man roster - Williams is going to replace Alualu. Bryant is still going to be on the roster. Alualu is not.
Now if the Jaguars resign Alualu, it means they are moving him to DT or more likely they don't plan on drafting Williams. 70-30 Tennessee drafts Williams.(?)! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
TE Nick O'Leary in round 2 - although many analysts now have him dropping to round 3. Too big of a weapon. He goes in the second.
OT in the first round.
We do need to upgrade the offensive line. But for all the talk about how bad the Oline is, I think it's getting overplayed a little. It could be better but I think a good chunk of it is Bortles needing to learn more pocket awareness and another big piece is scheme. Just look at Watt's 3 sacks. The first was straight up on Joeckel. but I'm not gonna kill a lineman for giving up one sack to Watt. The second of Watt's sack was him beating a RB. Why in the world is a RB blocking JJ Watt one on one? Sure it looks like the play was designed to be a quick throw to the other side of the field. But still, thats ludicrous to put a RB on Watt. And his 3rd sack was on Bortles. Joeckel clearly got the initial punch on Watt who was trying to go upfield. Watt then made a nice spin to move back underneath Joeckel. But Bortles could have easily sidestepped that. Or dropped farther back and then moved to his left. Not to mention Bortles was looking to his left to begin with. It's not like this was some blindside rush. No idea what Bortles was doing there. Tom Brady isnt getting sacked there. Neither is Manning. Nor Rodgers. Looking past those 3 sacks, there was another play where it looked like a bootleg or a designed roll out where Watt was left completely unblocked on the side of the line where Bortles was rolling out. Again, who designed that beauty of a play? Or was Bortles supposed to read that, and check to a different play or check to different blocking assignments?
We need more than just better olineman. Anyways I'm not ready to assume we could easily upgrade Joeckel even if he hasnt lived up to #2 overall billing. Really good LTs arent exactly a dime a dozen. LG could be upgraded easily. C could be upgraded(Bowanko isnt bad but is enjoying the benefit of low expectations). Linder has been a pleasant surprise and seems to be a longterm fit. And RT is a complete sieve at this point and should be easy to upgrade. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.
Anyways to answer the question, I think our biggest need is better QB play. QB is everything in the NFL now and Bortles played like a rookie. Didnt always get a lot of help but he didnt play well at times either. We need him to take a big step forward next year.
However we clearly arent drafting a QB. So to answer the question, what is the biggest need in this draft? I'm not sure there is one obvious position. We just need more elite players and preferably at the premium positions. We dont have an elite LT. or pass rusher. or CB. In fact we dont really have an elite player at any position. Marks was probably the best player relative to his position. We need to find some difference makers somewhere. anywhere. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. However we fix the o line I'm all for. Whether that is through the draft or through free agency it needs to be the priority. Just look at Dallas, they have built that line over the last few years and they are just dominating the trenches.

And it means Romo often has 5-6 seconds to think about what he plans to do. Forget the sacks for a minute, Bortles has been under pressure on almost every play. Hardly surprising that he struggles ! (And we still can't dominate the line for running plays up the middle, most of our success is around the edges) Quote:I will get blasted for this, but the OL really just needs better coaching. We lost our O-line coach to cancer and have had an assistant doing the job - get a quality O-line coach and I think the entire O-line drastically improves. This is the correct answer. We were short handed on coaching this year and it showed. We need an experienced coach in here pronto. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
