Jedd Fisch Fired!

Quote:I think the advantage of Bortles learning an offense now as opposed to last year is that he isn't being drafted in May and if we can get a coordinator in by January, he'll have 5 months to learn the offense before we pick our newest Jaguars. Plus, he's adjusted to the speed of the defense now (or at least better than week 3).

He can't do that.  He's not allowed to talk to the coaches until mid April.

I know Bortles and the rest of the offense can't meet with the new OC, but I sure hope they spend a loooooot of time together running routes and plays together.  there's some routes that are universal regardless of playbook.  I mean hell, practice the corner endzone throw from inside the 10 yard line.  get REALLY good at those.

Any OC who is succeeding right now won't be a candidate. Those guys get to interview for HC positions.

So get over the " yea, but his offense regressed the last three years."

The new OC will have to have already failed to have a chance to succeed here in J-ville.

Unless you want another college OC.

I would like Kubiak but he'll get a HC job offer.

BB5 had already said he had lined up practice sessions with the recievers during the offseason for here and in california. He said he wants to get timing and routes down with all the recievers.

This is a mistake.   Now Bortles and the young WR will have to learn a whole new offense again.  Good teams dont changes OC every 2 years.  Give the young players a chance to develop in the same system for crying out loud.  Did we not learn at all from Gabbert?

So the OC gets a free pass no matter what happens?  That seems a little narrow-minded.

Not a free pass.  Look at the talent he had.  All rookies and no O-line.  Chip Kelley wouldn't have been able to do much with this talent in one year either.  Firing a guy just to fire someone doesn't make sense.

No one got fired for the sake of getting fired.

Did you see growth from the offense over the season?

From Bortles?

Fisch got sacked because he wasn't good enough. Whether the next guy succeeds or not is much less important than sending the message that failure will not be institutionalized for the sake of continuity.

As the above poster said, he didn't get fired just because someone had to take the blame.  They aren't blaming everything on him either.  They didn't like what they saw out of him and see an opportunity to upgrade the position.  Just because he had a lot of rookies to work with doesn't mean that he didn't make any mistakes or that he's the best guy out there.

Who is the great mind they are going to bring in here?  Someone else who got fired?  Some QB coach somewhere getting their first chance?  What makes you think they will be any better.

Remember in 2003 when we were so happy to see Tom Coughlin get fired because he "wasnt good enough anymore" and "lost his touch".  How did that work out for us and Tom?

Welp, you heard it here first. ManzeilInTeal has decreed Fisch to be a future hall of fame level coach that will win multiple Superbowls.

Thanks for dribbling that knowledge on us, MIT.

Now you're just arguing about nonsense.  None of which you just said indicates that Fisch should not have been terminated or that his replacement won't do a better job.

Not saying Fisch is a hall of famer but they people on here who think it was his fault are clueless.  Sad to see the Jags brain trust is reacting to fan pressure to fire a guy.  Fisch did a lot of creative things with one of the least talented offensive rosters in the league the last two years.  Gosh the guy even made D. Robinson look like a decent RB this year.  When Blackmon was in the lineup he exploded.  Look what he did to develop a guy like Allen Hurns.  He does a good job getting the most out of his weapons IMO.  You cant expect an offense filled with rookies to be the Pats or the Packers.

For those who don't think Bortles was improving, look at his turnover numbers after the bye week.  Bortles was improving under Fisch.

Fisch fired? Who cares? Wake me when we have better players.

Quote:Gus said all other offensive jobs are still intact and would like to keep them, but he would not object if the new OC wants to replace a few.

Would like to keep WR coach
I get the sense that Jerry Sullivan is untouchable. And, really, who in their right mind would want to part ways with him?
