Draft A Running Back?
|
I've been outspoken about the devaluing of the position and Caldwell has made statements about it not being a priority as well.
I don't see the Jaguars drafting a RB earlier than the 5th round. I figure Denard/Toby get a crack at being #1 in a committee approach with competition only coming in the form of Storm/Todman, a late rounder/UDFA and maybe one cheap FA pick-up. If Denard and Toby aren't able to produce better numbers in whatever the new offense turns out to be, then I think the position gains priority. We show less advertisements to registered users. I would be OK with it but if one of the top backs fall and the great value is there get em. If Gurley or Coleman is there in the 3rd I would take them depending who is still on the board
Denard Robinson is going to improve next season as he gets more playing time. Jordon Todman, not Storm Johnson, replaced Toby Gerhart in Houston. I hope Johnson gets a lot better so we can let Todman practice more on kickoff returns.
We need to put off picking a running back until May 2 - if we draft one at all. Quote:I would be OK with it but if one of the top backs fall and the great value is there get em. If he can be had in the 4th or 5th rounds he'll be hard to pass up. For the record my guy at RB is Duke Johnson. He has the look of a future Charles/Bell. I've slowly come around too Gordon as well. Could be a future Marshawn Lunch.

The position has been devalued. But I would be okay with the team taking a back that became the next Leveon Bell or Demarco Murray.

A young QBs best friend is a back that is consistently keeping the offense ahead of the down and distance. I like DRob but I don't think he's built to carry the ball 25+ times a game and Toby hasn't shown consistent production when in the line up.

Well - he's been injured and the line did him no favors quite regularly.
I think the earliest we drive one is 4th round. But that could change depending on what we do in free agency

DRob running behind the same line had multiple 100 yard games. I stand by it, Toby has not been productive so far. Maybe the new OC will help change that but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

He also only got more than 10 touches in three games. So, unless you were expecting ten yards per carry, you've set the bar too high. I could be wrong - but I bet a healthy Gerhart in 2015 looks much better. I think a scenario in which Denard gets 12-18 touches per game and Toby get 8-12 - they could be a nice tandem.

I understand injuries happen but you can't be a workhorse back if you can't get out of the stable. If he gets nicked up again that's putting the load of the carries back on DRob who hasn't shown that he can take the long term punishment over mutiple games. I would like this offense to to have a little more of a dynamic player at that position than what we currently have. If the Jags are in the position to grab a RB at a great value it sure couldn't hurt.

If the right player is there in round three, I could see it happening. I could also see the team going all the way through the draft without adding a running back if they're sold on D-Rob and still have faith in Gerhart behind an improved offensive line.

In Round 3 the "right player" is an offensive lineman, not a running back.
What's everyone's opinion of Storm and Todman?

I think it's hilarious how everyone is all "I'd be okay if we drafted a guy that became the next LeVeon Bell or Demarco Murray." Oh is that right? You'd be okay if we drafted somebody who's better than everyone else at their position in the NFL? And in such a nonchalant manner no less. NO KIDDING. In that case, I'd be okay if we drafted a guy that became the next Joe Montana or Bruce Smith. And I gues it'd be cool if Gus Bradley became Bill Walsh, but whatevs.
C'mon people.
BORTLES ISN'T A FRANCHISE QB. FOURNETTE WILL BE A BUST.
