Draft A Running Back?
|
I see no problem drafting a RB but I think they won't draft one high. It's a position with a very short shelf life and we have bigger needs.

Why would we draft a DE when we were at the top in sacks in the whole NFL. We need a superstar player on this team.

They better do something, baffled at the people who think are rb's are adequate, they are friggin garbage. They only guy worthy off anything is Shoelace and he to me is not an everydown back, more of a change of pace back. I love Gordan but where we are drafting it doesn't seem plausible, Gurley in the 2nd I think is a possibility, otherwise I want David Johnson somewhere in rounds 3-5.

If the Jaguars are able to sign an offensive lineman in free agency who will be an immediate starter as well as a quality free safety, then I'd be fine with Coleman or Gurley in round 2. Both these guys can be difference-makers, but so was Jones-Drew who was taken in the 2nd and got to the playoffs one time while in Jacksonville. The Cowboys have shown what happens when the offensive line is given top priority. A great back is only as good as his offensive line as I'm sure Demarco Murray would not have made the pro bowl this year if he played for the Jaguars. Therefore, my ideal scenario would be:
Free agents: Bulaga, Free or Iupatti, McCourty, Moore or Gipson, Cameron or Clay and an experience, reasonably priced WR (Royal or Washington). Draft: Rd. 1- Williams or Gregory 2- Coleman or Gurley 3- Best linebacker available 4- More offensive line depth 5-7 BAP With the cap room the Jaguars have, they could probably make this happen in free agency, although I see no way McCourty is let go by the Patriots. If they somehow do get him, I doubt they would pay top dollar for a guy like Bulaga so I'd take the best available right tackle in round 2; a very good one should be available and I'd take a running back later in the draft. Although it's unlikely they won't have the career of Gurley or Coleman, history has shown you can get a very good back in rounds 4-6.
I would really like for us to draft a RB this year. Luckily this RB crop looks to be a good one so I think a good RB can still be had anywhere from rounds 2-4.

I like Jay Ajayi, can catch the ball and has the body to be a bell-cow. Boise state went as far as the "J-train" took them.

And Justin Forsett. Both had their opportunities here and other teams as well before they had success. Sometimes it's just the player needs the right system to succeed. Boise state went as far as the "J-train" took them. I was about to bring him up and saw you did. I like him to. Especially for the modern day NFL where being able to catch out of the backfield is almost as important. Guy put up a ton of yards. Can change direction quickly. And has good hands. I see a lot of mocks have him going 3rd. If he runs a great time, I bet he goes up higher. Combining total package with value, him in the 3rd may be a favorite RB in the draft for us. Unless of course somebody like Gordon fell to the 2nd but that seems unlikely. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. |
