***OFFICIAL Lions vs Cowboys Gameday Thread***

Quote:LOL, Chris Christie...  Clearly he had something nefarious to do with it!!!  That guy is the ultimate phony baloney!

With that said, I really thought that the call could have gone both ways.  The receiver was pushing off...

I've seen it every week in the regular season that WRs doing less would have been called for pass interference.  So I didn't have a problem with the non-call...  I don't think detroit was robbed.

To be honest, if dallas were stuck with that call, there could be a case made that they got totally hosed this entire game...

Lets assume the call was right. There should have been a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty on Dez Bryant for arguing the call on the field.

Game was clearly fixed. There is really no denying that.

I couldn't care less who comes out of the NFC, but games like this show that if the Jags ever do get good, the NFL has the ability to control the outcome of games to ensure "less popular" teams don't advance.

At the end of the day, the NFL is a business, and a business will do whatever it can to make the most money. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that when the Jags finally do get back into the playoffs, the NFL will find some way to screw us all over. Don't believe me? Just take a look at what transpired today, and during other playoff games I.E. Oakland @ New England in 2001.

Well, there's something to that...  There's no way I'm gonna defend that.

Something similar happened in the AZ/Pitt Superbowl where a squeeler took off his helmet and the refs ignored it.

Dude, I'm with you...

Think about how Seattle felt with their SB they lost to the, wait for it...  squeelers....

You got to just assume that you're gonna be not getting any calls untill you hit that level of awareness that the 'boys, giants, squeelers, packers, and pats get...

I mean, at a more micro level, think of the types of hits that BB5 takes and gets no calls versus how refs coddle the high end QBs...  To say that at some level the big markets DON'T get some sort of leniency is to ignore how things have been transpiring for multiple decades.

Again, 2 SBs come to mind quickly.  The AZ/Pitt and the Seatlle/Pitt SBs of the 2000s were pretty darn shady...

What did he do?

I liked hearing Troy Aikman give him credit for causing the interception.

I know that Hawks fans still complain about being robbed of that SB in 2006. But then again, Jerome Bettis was playing his last game and it was in his hometown of Detroit so it would make good publicity. Luckily for Seattle though they got their SB 8 years later but still...

And remember that bogus PI call against Brian Williams in the playoff game against Pittsburgh? Along with the fact that Hines Ward was holding his jersey and facemask. Pathetic. Luckily for us, the Jags were just a far more talented team and were able to overcome those bogus calls.

I still remember that Garrard "Fumble" against the Pats in 2006...we were robbed of atleast a wildcard spot.

Fox probably figures it's bad enough there's a Carolina game, may as well put in a team that'll draw higher ratings for their other game.

Totally!  dude, I'm telling you, untill you get the national media and the nation behind you, you play 2 teams in the playoffs...  The opponnent and the refs...

But again, with that said, I thought the PI should not have been called anyways.   LOL.  But as ShackDR points out, they totally ignored Dez coming on the field with his helmet off.  That was total mularkey.

Quote:Uh why did they pick that flag up?!

Because the referee is an idiot.

Quote:Boooooooo.  That reversed pass interfence call screwed this game up.

The Cowboys can thank Pete Morelli for winning.

Quote:The refs "owe" the Lions a call, in all honesty.

They owe the Lions an apology and explanation for picking up the flag.

Quote:No kidding...they got robbed.

I hope players and coaches say that publicly even if they get fined for it.

Quote:LOL, There's no doubt it was shady that they didn't explain the reason why the picked up the flag. No doubt

That and picking up the flag after announcing the penalty should give Morelli an automatic downgrade on top of the simple fact he did pick it up.

This penalty reversal will be up there with "the tuck rule" on the list of most infamous officiating errors. Lions fans are probably going to name it.

Even with the call the Lions still had an opportunity to win the game many times.

It's nice to lean on a crutch like that, but they have to hold themselves accountable for the mistakes they made on the field. The Lions did turn the ball over three times, and they did have a chance to stop Dallas on Defense, and they did have a chance to win the game on offense, so pointing the finger at an official can only justify so much.

I could tolerate them calling pass interference, and I could tolerate them not calling pass interference,  but to call it, then announce it, and then reverse it without explanation, surely the head honchos at NFL headquarters can understand what that looks like.

It looks like the game was fixed.

They really need to issue a plausible explanation, because this stinks to high heaven.

That is the real issue. The way it played out.

Even if Pete Morelli did explain it you could make the argument the game was fixed. None of the replays showed offensive pass interference and Dez Bryant should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct regardless of the DPI.

No, I disagree. There was some push off from the wr, it's there.

But with that said, the helmet thing IS huge.

I side more with JW, Yatrm, JWDY,and Bon Jagley, but let's face it:

Redsky's analysis is how the entire media is gonna play this one. While obvious that that one play really was the hinge of the entire game, the cowherds of the media will defend the entire thing using the Redsky argument...

It stinks, but such is life

What is the Redsky argument?

I watched replays on NFL.com and paid special attention to Brandon Pettigrew's left arm. He clearly did not push off. His left hand was resting on Anthony Hitchens' right shoulder.

Naturally, Pettigrew had nothing nice to say about it. Albert Breer tweeted, "Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew on the call: "I didn't get an explanation. It was ridiculous. . . . He ran through me."

I will be shocked if the officials are not downgraded for this crap and hope Pete Morelli never works during the playoffs again.
