Leonard Williams seems to be the go to favorite for mock drafts. Im just now getting up to speed with the 2015 draft prospects but what are we looking at here in Williams? Is he as thought of as N. Suh was when he came out?

 

Richard Seymour is a better comp. Maybe Justin Smith. He is more of a 5-technique where as Suh is a 3-technique.

He is a versatile. Could line up in Red Bryant's spot (think Michael Bennett in Seattle) on early downs and move inside on third down.

More of a JJ Watt type, can play inside or outside on the DL, powerful can stop the run and rush the passer, has a motor so no issues there, the best defensive player in the draft.

He is a local kid. From Orange Park and a fringe prospect at best. Probably a friend of his.

The draft and Free Agency are a real challenge.  So many options!

 

In FA the team re-signs Ball, Martin, and Alualu.  J T Thomas and Shorts find another team willing to pay them more than the Jaguars will.

 

FA from other teams:  LB Malcolm Smith (Super Bowl XLVIII MVP) - a salary cap casuality

                                   TE depending on availability

 

Draft:

 

Assumption - Blackmon returns to roster.  Williams is drafted #2 by Tennessee.

 

1.  DE Shane Ray Missouri - I absolutely hate drafting a DE here.  DE is the best long-term option.  This means cutting Clemons.  Cooper or an OT may be an option.  Trading back and picking up an extra selection is an option.

2.  FS Derron Smith  Fresno State

3.  ORT Daryl Williams  Oklahoma

4.  OG  John Miller  Louisville

5.  FS  Adrian Amos  Penn St - will be the backup FS with Josh Evans becoming the backup SS

6.  WR/PR  Jamison Crowder  Duke - will compete with Doss and Benn to be team's punt returner

7.  CB Jeremiah Johnson  Maryland - will replace Tommie Campbell on kickoff/punt return teams.  Campbell becomes a UFA and is replaced by a cheaper player.

 

If team is unable to re-sign Alualu, Arik Armstead in round 2 is a viable option.

If that kid is anything near the level of skill/type Watt is, I am all on board with that pick. A superstar on the line and an interception machine is all this defense needs to become elite.

If the Jags are going to throw insane money at any ORT then it ought to be Bulaga. Bulaga may be the Packers No.1 priority in Free Agency and it all depends upon whether Bulaga accepts 5 to 6 mil from the Packers or 7 to 8 from the Jags.

 

If Bulaga tests the market then he needs to be the No. 1 Free Agent target for the Jags.

 

I also agree that Donovan Smith would be a nice backup Tackle at the top of Rd 4.

 

I sense that the Packers are going to have to make a choice between Bulaga or Cobb because in all likelihood they are going to lose one or the other and the Jags should jump at the chance of signing the one that hits the market.

 

I suspect the Jags will have to overpay, but probably is OK.

 

How do you know we would want to pay him more than the Packers?

 

I am all for drafting a backup tackle, but we need to pick a starter if Bulaga does not want to play for us.

With all the new developments transpiring, what we need is another mock offseason prognostication.

 

Free Agency:

 

1. Bryan Bulaga - ORT - Packers

 

I am quite sure that Bulaga is a prime target for the Packers but Bulaga wants to see what he is worth on the open market and the Jags perhaps overpay a bit to get him at 8 Mil per season.

 

2. Charles Clay - TE - Dolphins

 

Clay makes the most sense for the Jags in seeking a pass receiving TE.

 

3. Akeem Ayers - Otto LB - Patriots

 

Ayers performed well for the Patriots after being traded from the Titans. The Jags are looking for an OLB that can rush the passer and Ayers seems to fit the mold.

 

4. Perrish Cox - CB - 49ers

 

Jags need a corner that can push Gratz and Cox is coming off a very nice season.

 

5. Kendrick Lewis - FS - Texans

 

Lewis performed well for the Texans having come over from the Chiefs.

 

6. Tyson Alualu - DE - Jags

 

Makes sense to resign him.

 

7. Austin Pasztor - ORT - Jags

 

He looks to be a keeper as a backup ORT and ORG

 

8. Ryan Davis - DE - Jags

 

Jags should sign Davis up with an incentive laden contract that rewards him for his sacks

 

9. J.T. Thomas - ILB - Jags

 

Performed well as a backup ILB.

 

10. Jordan Toddman - RB - Jags

 

Worth bringing back to camp.

 

Draft:

 

Rd 1(3): Randy Gregory - DE - Nebraska

 

While I prefer Williams or Ray, I think that Gregory may be the Jags target player.

 

TRADE: Jags trade Pick 36 to Dolphins for Picks 47 an 115. Dolphins want a premium RB (Gurley)

 

Rd 2(47): Paul Dawson - ILB - TCU

 

Dawson is the biggest sleeper in the draft class. All American but not invited to either Senior Bowl or East/West Shrine Game.

 

TRADE: Jags trade Pick 67 to Browns for Picks 77 and 153

 

Rd 3(77): Anthony Harris - FS - Virginia

 

Jags need that Centerfielder and Harris is the target.

 

Rd 4(104): Jesse James - TE - Penn State

 

Big blocking TE that can still catch the ball.

 

Rd 4(115): Jeremy Langford - RB - Michigan State

 

Jags wait until the 4th RD to grab their RB.

 

Rd 5(145): Tony Washington - Otto LB - Oregon

 

We know that Washington can rush the passer, so we will have to see if he can drop back in coverage.

 

Rd 5(153): B.J. Finney - C - Kansas State

 

Backup center in ZBS.

 

Rd 6(184): Robert Myer - OG/OT - Tennessee State

 

Senior Bowl invitee that Jags snag late as backup Olineman.

 

Rd 7(221): Isaiah Johnson - SS - Georgia Tech

 

Combination LB/S that fits the mold that Gus looks for in his SS.
