Trade up for Melvin Gordon?

So you want a guy who's proven he can carry the load at RB. And we don't need anymore youth on the OL...but you want to draft a rookie at RB. Then compare him to a guy taken in the 3rd round whose team built their OL exclusively through the draft. Then you advocate giving the young offensive linemen time to get better. But not the same for the young RBs (including one with 2 100 yard games this season)
I'm not saying Gordon won't be good. But that seems a little contradictory.
Quote:.... BECAUSE WISCONSIN RBS ARE JUST SO GOOD IN THE NFL.I know Montee Ball has been a dissappointment, but I'm having a hard time remembering another Wisc RB that was overrated entering the draft. I don't think Gordon is the clear cut #1 RB in this year's draft but he's in the conversation IMO, and it's a very good draft for RBs.
Quote:I know Montee Ball has been a dissappointment, but I'm having a hard time remembering another Wisc RB that was overrated entering the draft.Ron Dayne and Michael Bennett (who albeit had one good year) and terrel fletcher (even had to google this one as couldn't remember last name)
Quote:Haven't seen a mock draft by the "experts" yet that doesn't have him going in the first round. If he turns out to be an all pro I wouldn't mind us giving up a third round pick. -Could be like getting a Demarco Murray like player or a Dwayne Gratz....you choose. We need game changers on this team. That kid averaged over 7 yards a carry all season. Our RB's have yet to prove they can carry the load. As far as our O-line goes. Address that in FA. We do not need anymore youth on the line. Get a FA RT and someone to compete with Beadles. Give the young guys in offseason to get stronger and we should see a better group next season. Wasn't Demarco Murray a 3rd round pick? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:I bet if he was an SEC guy you all would be all over it.... Considering how badly the SEC got stomped last week I really don't think so.
Quote:.... BECAUSE WISCONSIN RBS ARE JUST SO GOOD IN THE NFL. Come on man, comparing Melvin Gordon to any other RB that has come out of Wisconsin is incredibly ignorant, if you can't see that Melvin is a different runner than any of those guys then you're truly clueless, I'm not advocating trading up for hime, but I do believe he'll be a star at the next level, very similar to Jamaal Charles.
Quote:Wasn't Demarco Murray a 3rd round pick?yeah, he fell because of injures. Could be a situation like Gurley
Quote:Come on man, comparing Melvin Gordon to any other RB that has come out of Wisconsin is incredibly ignorantI don't like it either, I think he or another poster did the same thing with Penn St WRs. I remember when Lee was drafted he was asked about prior USC WRs that didn't pan out. It's irrelevant IMO, gotta scout the player, not the school/system/etc. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! At some point, yeah, you do have to ask about whether a guy's college stats were pumped up more by the system and/or players around him than his own ability. It's a question worth posing about Gordon. As to the idea of trading back into one to draft him, no. A quality starter can be found in round three these days, and burning a premium pick on a back when you have as many other holes as the Jaguars do--two or more picks if you count what it would take to trade up--would be unwise. If the Jags had a dominant passing game but an anemic running game, I might be more inclined to agree with the idea of jumping up to make sure you get Gordon before the Oaklands of the world have a shot at him, but even then, I doubt you'd have to jump all the way back into round one to do it.
Trade up for a RB??? No.

I honestly can't see us trading up for anybody in this draft (because we have so many holes to fill). That would be the same if it was a running back, a defensive end or a safety.
A shame, because I would love to have Gordon playing for us. I'm sure his figures were inflated this past season, but I don't think you can deny he is a very good running back. And say what you want about running backs being devalued in the draft, you can see examples all over the NFL of running backs who make a real difference to their team. We need someone like that. Quote:BECAUSE WISCONSIN RBS ARE JUST SO GOOD IN THE NFL. That is what I don't understand. Why are running backs so good at Wisconsin but terrible in the NFL? There seems to be something about Wisconsin that makes running backs look better than they are.
Quote:I know Montee Ball has been a dissappointment, but I'm having a hard time remembering another Wisc RB that was overrated entering the draft. Ron Dayne. He broke the record for rushing yards in the Big Ten and became a forgotten man very quickly after that. Ball is OK as a backup but admitted he is not good enough to be a starter.

There seems to be something about Wisconsin that makes running backs look better than they are. Uh duh, the Badgers always have a huge physical nasty offensive line, with that said. Melvin Gordon is easily the most talented and best RB to ever come out of WI, compaing him to any other backs there is just lazy.

Quote:You specifically said "there seems to be something about Wisconsin that makes running backs look better than they are". Come on JW. That comment is about the program, not the running backs. |
