Marc Trestman to interview for OC position

Quote:its pretty odd. trestman is a big name with a proven record. if someone is still in the playoffs, they cant be an OC already (unless they believe he will be fired)

so i guess im curious what makes the jaguars think that someone who may not even have held the OC position for would be better than trestman.
gus.

Quote:didn't you also think there was no way Fisch would be fired???
I said I didn't think they would fire Fisch because I felt there were plenty of reasons the offense struggled, him being a part of that.  Should I apologize for being wrong about them dumping the OC and recognizing that there were a lot of issues on that side of the ball that were beyond his control?

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

They certainly could go after an OC for any team including those in the playoffs.  All they'd need to do is give a guy the title of OC and tag on some assistant head coach label or something like that.

I doubt that's their plan, but it's not impossible to pursue an OC.

i didnt realize there was that little loophole.

i dont think you should apologize but them firing fisch means they thought he shouldnt have been as bad as he was even with those things beyond his control.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

It can't be a lateral move.  If the guy is an OC, adding a title would get them around that obstacle.

There was more to the firing of Fisch than just those things that he did have control over based on the reports that are out there.  If he was belittling the guy who is expected to be your franchise QB, that's not acceptable behavior, especially when the coach expects his staff to use less vitriol and more positive reinforcement to develop players.

Apologize? Maybe not for being wrong but for belittling people (not me) who kept saying he should be fired because he's not a good OC. You tend to jump on people who have a different opinion than that of the organization.

Just saying a little humility might be needed.

Disagreeing with those who were howling for his head is not belittling.  Keep trying.

Thanks for the advice.  Practice what you preach.

Quote:I haven't really dismissed what Ryan O said.  I just don't know if the rationale behind his opinion is valid.  He's saying Trestman isn't a serious candidate because he and Bradley are friends.
Tom Clements of Green Bay is a level that is a possibilty for this team. A guy with experience but more recent with a top qb in Aaron Rodgers.  Also has coached some interesting guys such as Farve, Kordell Stuart, Trent Green and  Drew Bledsoe as well as the qb coach when Rodgers was first drafted.

It's not odd at all. Trestman isn't good. Too many fans overrate him. How long has Trestman stayed anywhere? Ever wonder if he was so good why doesn't he stay in one spot? Why did he go to the CFL?

There are many reason why coaches move. Especially in the NFL.

Coaches bounce around the league all the time.  That doesn't mean they're not good coaches.  A lot of times it's just a matter of circumstances.  I wouldn't use that as the barometer.  I'd be more concerned about a guy who is entrenched as a coordinator somewhere who is never given consideration to move on to the next level, or a position coach who hasn't moved around to advance his career.

Trestman's resume indicates he's actually a good coach, regardless of where he's been.  And so what if he was in the CFL?  Is that any different than coming from the college ranks?

You realize Trestman won a championship in the CFL? You don't do that by accident.

Apparently that's a bad thing for some folks.

Maybe he should have won a Pop Warner championship instead?

No way, I think you are a good poster in the Jungle. I enjoy your thoughts and you have a good writing style.

It just happens that we disagree sometimes, which is fun because I like to argue. :-)

The only member that has really gotten my blood boiling is currently persona non grata for a while. Which is fine by me!

Now regarding that post, I was pointing out that the MB does not hate ZBS, per se.

A few posters does not an entirety make. My point being that sometimes we, not just you cuz I do it sometimes as well, tend to create false pretenses by over assessing a group as being larger than they are in reality.

I don't even know if that's that fans hate the ZBS, I think it's more a matter of not liking that we can't run it properly so that it works as it should. Without admittedly understanding all the responsibilities it entails, it comes off to the uninitiated (such as myself) as an unnecessarily complicated scheme with a higher likelihood of any individual player making a critical mistake as opposed to "beat your man."

That is very true regarding specific opinions vs board.

And as for your argument point, very infectious and enjoyable around here!
