Just a reminder that the National Champion lost to a 7-6 ACC team

Quote:In case you forgotDo you think the team that Ohio St. became would lose to that team now? Do you think VT should of been in the playoffs? Do you think VT could beat any of the teams in the playoffs? Do you think VT is a top 15 team?

Yes, it was JT Barrett's 2nd game.
I originally thought the OSU schedule was soft but there is nothing soft about playing WISC, BAMA, and Oregon with your 3rd string QB Gotta admit ..... I'm impressed by their accomplishment.

The dirty little secret of the NFL is that the best team doesn't always win the Super Bowl. The key is to be good enough to qualify for the playoffs, be lucky enough that you suffer injuries at positions of depth(if not avoid injuries entirely), and then get hot at the right time. There have been way too many 4, 5, and 6 seed Super Bowl winners to suggest otherwise. As college football begins to expand their playoffs, which will inevitably happen, this will be true in that sport as well.
How this ties to Ohio St... I'm not entirely sure I think they were the best team in the 2014 season. Struggled against Navy. Lost to an average VaTech team. Went to OT against an average Penn St team. Was losing to a bad Indiana team by a TD late in the 3rd. Tied with a bad Michigan team late in the 3rd. They did have the impressive win against Michigan St but that was it. Most of their games were against average to bad teams and they didnt look great in half of them. But you have to give them credit for showing up at the right time. Crushing Wisconsin to get into the playoff. And then playing really well in their two playoff games. They definitely deserved to win it once they got there. Had they played a more challenging regular season schedule, would they have finished the season with only one loss and received an invite to the playoff? Maybe not. But this is going to be the new reality as we keep expanding the playoff. More and more champions with questionable losses and/or struggling in a number of games throughout the season. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.

UConn was probably not even close to the best team last year but got hot at the right time and won it all.
Thats the thing about playoffs. The highest seeded team doesn't always win it all.
Inaugural college playoff,, the lowest seeded team wins it. But, I gotta agree with Hurricane. Taking out WISC, BAMA, ORE in 3 straight games is very impressive. I think everyone who says Ohio State did not deserve a playoff invitation for the reasons RFC described is just a Buckeyes hater because the same people said Florida State, who almost lost to several unranked teams and did nothing when it finally faced a real opponent, is the best team in America. You can't have it both ways. FSU did not have to break in a new quarterback the first two weeks. That was why OSU lost to VT - it was only the second game for J.T. Barrett. FSU didn't have that excuse for almost losing several games against weak opponents.
Look at the conference championship games. FSU barely beat GT while OSU blew out and shut out Wisconsin. The Badgers were ranked higher than the Yellow Jackets and had a Heisman Trophy finalist for a running back. OSU also broke a new quarterback in against the Badgers while Jameis Winston played against Georgia Tech. What if Cardale Jones played all year? What if Navy and Virginia Tech were not the first two OSU opponents? What if Florida State did not get lots of lucky breaks and let Winston play in every game? You can twist the story many ways, but in the end, OSU > FSU. The Buckeyes got the job done. The Seminoles didn't. End of story.
And FSU got beat by the team that lost to the team that lost to a 7-6 team by 39 pts.

Nothing new here.Which makes college football so dumb. TCU and Baylor each deserved a chance to play in the championship game.
This playoff showed why we need 8 teams. How many people said Ohio state was overrated? The number 4 seed (and many argued they shouldn't even be in the tournament) dominated the playoffs. It also shows how flawed the BCS was.
