Joe Paterno's wins could be restored
|
Quote:Because it's his legacy? It's important to his family that he be cleared.Screw his family. His "legacy" is that he protected a known child molester on his coaching staff. Vacating the wins in the first place was pretty dumb--his team certainly didn't realize any competitive advantage by having a chester in the coaches' box, but I'm completely against any action by the NCAA that would even slightly help to shine away the tarnish on Joe Paterno's name. I agree totally with you. Paterno was made a scapegoat in this incident. He admitted he had regrets that he could have done more, but to call him an accomplice is ridiculous. If anyone besides Sandusky should be vilified, it is the A.D. and president of the university. Hopefully, they will suffer the consequences if found guilty of a cover-up.

JoePa turned Sandusky in to the administration. It was the administration mainly the board of trusties and the university president that failed to report Sandusky to the police. All of which have been fired or resigned. JoePa totally deserves to have all his wins restored.

Quote:People still defend JoePa?Apparently protecting his "legacy" is more important than the child molestation that he helped to cover up. Quote:Apparently protecting his "legacy" is more important than the child molestation that he helped to cover up. If you've never done it, you should check out a Penn State message board. It's hilarious. Especially back when all this stuff came out. Quote:If you've never done it, you should check out a Penn State message board. It's hilarious. I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

I thought the same way as many of you did until an older guy around Joe Paterno's age put it in perspective.
They were born and brought up in a different generation. Things were done differently when they grew up and a lot of things they would see just weren't talked about. He wasn't justifying what he did, but saying that his past could have made him not head straight to the police. He told his superiors about what he was told and thought it was enough. I'm not saying Paterno shouldn't have run straight to the cops and told them, but he at least told his superiors about it who "investigated" it. Quote:I thought the same way as many of you did until an older guy around Joe Paterno's age put it in perspective. Question. Did you read the article I posted?
Quote:UCF, you sure you want to be defending Paterno? Read that article. I'm not defending him......I've said here that he's made mistakes. I read your article and I'm not saying he handled it the right way. Edit: "To his credit," said Freeh in his introductory remarks, "Mr. Paterno stated on Nov. 9, 2011, 'With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.'" Quote:They were born and brought up in a different generation. "Let's not talk about it." "Ok. So about that Rutgers game next week..." We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Quote:"So, my defensive coordinator is molesting children on school property." Again, he didn't do enough. He is a bad person for not going to the cops. Going to his superiors to ensure something was done and not reaching out was a terrible decision. Where have I said he did enough? Quote:Again, he didn't do enough. Going to his superiors to ensure something was done and not reaching out was a terrible decision. You keep saying that you're not defending the guy, then posting what could only be interpreted as a defense of or justification for his inaction. Joe Paterno protected a child molester. That's the truth, and no one disputes it. Why you keep trying to lift some of that off of his name is beyond me. That's the truth, and no one disputes it. Why you keep trying to lift some of that off of his name is beyond me. I went and re read everything I've said in this thread. Nothing I've said has defended him or said anything he did was right. Part of his legacy will be that he protected a child molester. It will be the part that everyone will remember most, including me. He didn't do enough to save those kids. Quote:I'm not defending him......I've said here that he's made mistakes. This part stood out to me: According to the 267-page Freeh report, Paterno lied -- to a grand jury, no less -- about his knowledge of a 1998 assault of a young boy (Victim 6) by longtime Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky in a football facility shower. His legacy is what his legacy is. You are judged based on what you do or don't do as it should be. |
