Cardale Jones
|
Quote:Let's see him win the starting job next season and play lights-out football for twelve games instead of one, shall we? I will be surprised if he wins the starting job over J.T. Barrett. When Barrett played, he threw a lot. When Cardale Jones played, Ezekiel Elliott was most of the offense. Will the spring and preseason practices be enough for Jones to become the best passer on the team? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I strictly compared only his physical tools to Ben, not his overall ability. That wasn't actually directed at you, but okay.
Quote:Todd McShay just wrote an article on Jones and where he's projected to be drafted. Anyone with ESPN insider would like to share? Link? FWIW McShay also called Joey Bosa "the J.J. Watt of college football," which Bosa himself does not agree with. Quote:Let's see him win the starting job next season and play lights-out football for twelve games instead of one, shall we?It was three.

Well considering that EJ Manuel went in the first twenty picks IIRC, you'd have to think Jones would be projected in the top ten, if not ultimately drafted number one overall.

You know who else went in the top 20? Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, Ryan Leaf, David Carr, JaMarcus Russell, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, and Robert Griffin.
People seems to forget that Matt Cassell was a backup at USC, and if I remember correctly, he never really play any significant minute while at college.
Teams will be intriqued by Cardale and will take him somewhere in the mid round. Ohio State QB Cardale Jones says he’s not NFL-ready yet Posted by Kevin McGuire on January 13, 2015, 1:43 PM EST ![]()
Well, I guess we can close the door on that fun little topic that developed during Monday night’s College Football Playoff national championship game. Ohio State quarterbackCardale Jones said in a day-after press conference this morning he did not feel he was ready to play in the NFL.
“In my personal opinion, I’m not ready for that level yet,” Jones said Tuesday during a day-after press conference in Dallas. “I mean, like coach [Urban] Meyer said, it’s a conversation me and him will have later down the road. But to me right now, it’s far out.”
So, will he be back in Columbus in 2015? This also remains a question, as Ohio State has a crowded quarterback situation at the moment. As it stands at the moment, Ohio State has a national championship winning quarterback in Jones, a quarterback who entered 2014 with preseason Heisman Trophy hype in Braxton Miller and a quarterback who was deserving of Heisman consideration in J.T. Barrett. It is widely expected Ohio State will lose one quarterback to a transfer, but that is not yet a definite decision. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:People seems to forget that Matt Cassel was a backup at USC, and if I remember correctly, he never really play any significant minute while at college. Now he is a backup in the NFL. So is Mark Sanchez, who also did not play much before applying for the draft. Give me the name of someone who played very little in college and went on to have a spectacular NFL career. Yes, Cardale Jones can be drafted high because of his physical size and talent. That does not mean he can expect to be the starter. It just assures he will not start his career on a team's practice squad. Quote:Now he is a backup in the NFL. So is Mark Sanchez, who also did not play much before applying for the draft. Give me the name of someone who played very little in college and went on to have a spectacular NFL career.Nobody says anything about having a good NFL career. I'm just saying that if he enters this year, he will be drafted somewhere.
If you think about it, entering the NFL now with as little experience at the collegiate as he has actually has its advantages.
Instead of playing another 12 games in a gimmicks college offense, he can properly learn the pros game on the bench and or on a practice squad for a year or two. Because he has so little college experience that coaches don't have to spend a couple of years to "rework" him ala Gabbert, Kaepernick, RG3, or even Cam, instead, they can mold him to be a QB they want him to be. Quote:Cassell was also drafted in the 7th round. And doesn't have nearly the physical tools that Cardale possesses. The debate isn't whether or not he will be a great NFL QB, but rather if his upside and what little we've seen from him, warrants a draft pick and effort into coaching him up. Now that he has come out and said he will not enter the draft, this thread is moot, since we will likely see more of him next year and get a better evaluation on him.
Quote:Yea that's what I said. Come on JDub. Three starts is three games, good gosh. No it's not. He played during the fourth quarter of blowouts, so the number of games played is not the same as the number of games started.
Quote:If you think about it, entering the NFL now with as little experience at the collegiate as he has actually has its advantages. Read Warjag's post again. Cardale himself said he is not ready for the NFL. He knows playing a full season at Ohio State can help him more than leaving school after several fourth quarters and three starts. Quote:And doesn't have nearly the physical tools that Cardale possesses. I think he definitely will be worth a draft pick in 2016, but not in the first round. During spring practices, Jones played better than Barrett. However, I think Barrett will get his job back after another quarterback competition. Quote:No it's not. He played during the fourth quarter of blowouts, so the number of games played is not the same as the number of games started. He started against Wisconson, Alabama, and Oregon. Is that three?
