Demarco Murray and cowboys disagree over value

Indifferent if we sign him. Don't think he'll solve our problems, but we've got so much capspace at the moment

If Callahan becomes our OC it would make more and more sense to get Murray.

Quote:I don't know where you are getting your information, but it is incorrect. AP contract is 6 years 36 mil guaranteed. So an average of 6 a year. McCoy is 5 years 20 mil guaranteed. So an average of 4 per year. Foster is similar to McCoy. Now I agree just a straight 4 year 16 mil is a bit low. But for the guaranteed portion, its not that far off. Its the incentives and bonuses causing the difference here. Now obviously those are average numbers over the contract, structured for cap hits and whatnot will impact the year to year guaranteed value. I personally wouldnt give him more than $4mil a year guaranteed. But I'd load him up with performance incentives
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Thanks for the clarification regarding how you look at contracts - average based on guarantee vs the entire pay package with bonuses etc. That was the cause of my confusion. Io me its kinda misleading because the annual salary and the cap hit for those guys is much larger than their average guaranteed salary. To each their own I guess when looking at that type of situation.
As for Murray, I wouldn't give him a dime honestly, never mind four million dollars a year. He puts the rock on the ground way too much for my liking. The Jags are much better off looking for a better rb who doesn't fumble as much. I would target Forsett this off season if the Ravens let him get to free agency.

I seriously doubt Forsett would go anywhere that doesn't include Kubiak in the coaching staff. even if he would, we already had him here and he was not good. Murray is a good fit here. He did great in the ZBS. Forsett did too, but he isn't near the talent that Murray is. Fumbling issues can be fixed.
Somebody previously said Dave was quoted as saying you put a running back in place when everything else is so that you don't waste some of his valuable years while you are trying to get where you want to be.
That may be the case here......I feel fairly safe in saying Demarco Murray wont be a Jag next year. Quote:Somebody previously said Dave was quoted as saying you put a running back in place when everything else is so that you don't waste some of his valuable years while you are trying to get where you want to be.Caldwell has downplayed the value of the position without a doubt. That matters when you're talking about the expectations of paying a guy somewhere in the range of $5 million per year or more. The team will spend money in free agency, but I doubt they make such a heavy investment in the running game. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I only see that appliying to the draft. yes, you don't want to draft a RB high when the team has other holes. free agency is different. if an elite talent hits the market, you should consider it so your team gets better. To each their own I guess when looking at that type of situation. I havent really been looking at cap hits due to the fact we have no worries of that for years. That being said I really dont want Murray anyway, but if we do get him I'd rather the contract average $4mil than $6mil. I still dont think, especially based on Caldwell's comments, that we even really consider a RB for another year or two. Unless we have Melvin Gordon staring at us in the 4th/5th somehow.

I don't think Caldwell's comments should be taken seriously. Last year he had all the homers so convinced that no QB was worthy of a 1st rounder. Then we pick one at 3.

Quote:Draft strategy vs. free agency are two very different things. I agree, but that didn't affect how people viewed his comments a year ago. Then you have the "Bortles will sit a year" thing. He didn't do that. Now apparently he said we would never get a RB? Ok, I don't know exactly what was said, but whatever it was it probably means very little. Just because he said something publicly doesn't mean he wouldn't consider getting a guy like Murray. Murray is the kind of free agent we never attempt to go after. He's the kind of signing that would move the needle. I would not be surprised to see us throw our hat in the ring. There is little reason not to. It seems to me that a lot of people are opposed to the idea just because they haven't seen the actual ticker tape say, "Jaguars showing interest in Demarco Murray." Once that happens, all of a sudden the homers will get on board. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
