Is this the offseason the Jaguars bring in some real competition for Josh Scobee?

I'm not sure why this is even a debate.  Scobee is getting paid more than $4 million per year to do two things.  Put it between the uprights, and kick it through the end zone.  He struggled this past season.  He's going into the final year of his contract.  If the Jags can find a guy who gives them better production at a lower cost, why would they stick with him?

He's not Mr. Automatic anymore.  This is the first season where you had to hold your breath every time he lined one up.  Meanwhile, guys like Vinatieri, Janikowski, Bryant, Succop, and every other kicker in the league have lower cap numbers.

Scobee has the highest cap number in the league for kickers, and he's not in the top 10 of any stat used to measure kicker's success.

I don't think Scobee is as secure as many in this thread do.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What I find funny is how Lewis is ripped by so many in this fan base.. But Scobee gets a free pass. Their situations are not that different.

Sort of.  Both are overpaid.  One has actually had a stretch of success making him worthy of the extension he got at the time the deal was done.  The other?  Not so much.

As much as it pains me to say. I agree with everything you just said.

And as good as Vinatieri is, the Colts made a mistake in keeping him over Cody Parkey. Parkey, whom they traded to Philadelphia for a since jettisoned running back will be going to the Pro Bowl next week.

The funny thing is that there's a chance Marcedes is on the roster next year, and Scobee is not.

BTW, that pro bowl kicker?  Cody Parkey made about 1/10th what Scobee did this year.

Yeah. That is what I am saying. The Colts kept Vinatieri (42 years old, 2.5 million salary) over Parkey (22 years old. 420k salary). Big mistake.

I was shocked Parkey was not drafted in the 7th round or earlier. While at Auburn we did not know if our return game coverage was any good because he always kicked it through the end zone. He was consistent in FG's also. I am with you Scobee is on a hot seat. He is way overpaid for what we are getting.

I don't generally agree with FBT, but he's spot on.

We have way too many players that are overpaid for their productions - mainly Scobee and Lewis (and debatably - Poz).

Time to look for cheaper upgrades so cap space can be used on TRUE difference makers.

Draft Aguayo in the 2nd round and every trip across the opposing 40 yd line is an automatic 3 points. I say draft him in the 2nd because Gene Smith was hired by the Jets and is probably targeting him in the 3rd round.
