Interesting Players From Shrine Game

#1
(This post was last modified: 01-20-2015, 03:00 AM by GlockBortles.)

Anthony Chickillo - DE, Miami (6'5" 270):

He showed a mastery of down-lineman technique and an excellent burst off the line at the snap. He frequently found himself around the football due to a fast first step and appeared to fight until the whistle on every play. "Chickillo, to me, was unblockable. It didn't matter if he was coming from the right or left," analyst Mike Mayock said after the game on the NFL Network broadcast. Chickillo only produced 2.0 sacks as a senior in 2014, but he had 14.5 in total in his collegiate career to go with 167 tackles. At 6'5" and 270 pounds, he looks and plays line an NFL lineman. His explosiveness and instinct should at least allow him to make an impact as a rotational player early in his career. - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/23333...sis/page/3

He was everywhere, pressuring the West quarterbacks not only around the edge, but on stunts and bull rushes as well. He's raw, but the natural ability is definitely still there. It reminded me a little of former Miami offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson who was a prized high school recruit, but he ended up being far more productive as a rookie in 2014 than he ever was during a disappointing Miami career. - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/23331...ek/page/10

Za'Darius Smith, DE, Kentucky (6'5" 273lbs):

Smith was a disruptive force on the edge all game long—just like he was during the 2014 season. Smith racked up 34 tackles (seven for a loss) and 4.5 sacks as a senior. His long arms help him to maintain leverage and bully the opposition. He could be a bit undersized as an NFL 4-3 defensive end, but if he can add some muscle and maintain his explosiveness there is nothing to hold him back from becoming a solid NFL rotation player. CBS Sports currently has Smith projected as a third or fourth-round pick but don't be surprised if the Wildcat builds on this star turn in the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine. - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-d...hrine-game

BJ Finney - C, Kansas State (6'4" 317lbs):

According to announcers Mike Mayock and Andrew Siciliano, Finney had an excellent week of practice with the West team. He showed both talent and poise during the game. At 6'4" and 317 pounds, Finney has the size and build of a prototypical NFL center. His could likely also play guard at the next level. NFL DraftScout.com currently projects him as a fourth- or fifth-round selection, ranking him No. 4 overall among draft-eligible centers. Even if he can't walk into a starting role as a rookie, expect Finney to land on a 53-man roster as a depth player. - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/23333...sis/page/4

Josh Shaw - CB, USC (6"1" 200lbs):

Mayock on CB Josh Shaw (6-1, 200) of USC: "He's long, put together like you can't believe. He's a little stiff. He's best when he's in a press situation." Shaw began his career at Florida before transferring to USC, and he was seen as a safety at Florida but played only corner with the Trojans. Mayock sees Shaw -- who had an end-zone interception of Old Dominion's Taylor Heinicke in the second quarter -- as a corner in the NFL: "He's 6-1, with long arms; he's a press corner in today's NFL." - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...hrine-game

John Miller, OG, Louisville (6-3, 315):

Mike Mayock pointed out Miller several times on the telecast and he was right in doing so, as the powerful drive blocker simply blasted defenders off the line throughout much of the game. Miller has the relative low center of gravity and thick base that scouts look for in interior lineman and has long enough arms (33"). In pass protection, he showed balance and reasonably light feet to mirror, as well as strong hands to latch and control. He also demonstrated the core flexibility and power to anchor against the bull rush. - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-d...hrine-game

Are these guys from the East-West Shrine Game or the Senior Bowl? Two different events. The write-up on Za'Darius Smith mentions the Senior Bowl.

I thought it was guys who were not invited to the Senior Bowl

Players can go from the Shrine game to the Senior Bowl. Garropolo (sp?) did this last season.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
