I think the main thing Bills fans coming here are looking for is dialogue.  The point isn't to bash, meerely to speak and converse, even if they are from opposite sides of the spectrum.  What no Jags fan is able to answer, or even address, is for an OL coach, why did his OL get progressively worse the more time spent here and with the unit, with largely the same players (OL) from the previous regime?  It is a serious question, what about that makes you excited or what is the reasonining for it. Same QB"s, same OL, improved talent at WR, same talent at RB.  How do all these units get worse if he is such a great hire?  What is really exciting to this fanbase about this hire, in X's and O's, data, video analysis (all-22 exists now we can do that), or stats?

2)  If Marrone were anathema to offensive football, why would the Saints have a top 5 offense in two of Marrone's three years as offensive coordinator?

 

3)  If Marrone were so inept, and the team succeeded in spite of him, why did the guy who saved football in Buffalo, Terry Pegulla, try to retain him in his capacity as Head Coach?

I'm laughing, I give it 4 weeks before Marone wants to be the head coach and undermines Bradley. Sure Buffalo had fewer sacks than jax, but it was a result of buffalo having a better QB. Bryon, errr I mean Blaine, shoot! I mean Blake is terrible, he needed that senior year at UCF, but leave it to Jacksonville to draft him.

When I heard buffalo was playing AT Jacksonville, I was excited, 9 home games! Then I heard it was in London, now I'm disappointed, however the domination our pro bowl DL will have over your Marone led OL will be epic!!!

I agree I am a Sentrel fan, but Hairston and Pears also played "servicable" at tacke.  I think the Bills are above average at 2 positions on the OL, a possible above average at one (RT), and bargain basement at the gaurd position.  Marrone wanted road graters, that's what he got, that's what he didn't produce with.

 

 

1 and 2)because it is Peytons offense, not Marrones.  The offense hasn't missed a single beat since he left (abeit the last 2 years have been a distaster), in fact had record setting seasons. Why when given control with a lot pieces in place at play making positions, does this offense not resemble one he was in control of? 

 

3) for the same reason that Bills fans, and you guys have stated, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Marrone led us to a winning season, so working with him to retain him makes sense, but his skill level does not dictate that it be at all costs.  It is speculated in Buffalo that the offense needed to make sweeping changes, especially with the staff, and that is the issue.

 

I think Marrone is a satisfactory HC, a reasonable manager. But the question I asked myself in Buffalo is, if his specialty is as OC and more specifically the OL, and it is regressing, and is the worst unit on the entire team. What is he really bringing to the table. I would have had no ill will towards Marrone, but he left in a non-classy ways. I hope things work out for you guys, but I would be skeptical based in the (lack) production when in absolute, full control, of what he will himself claims to be his strengths.

Seantrel had a very good year, but was often helped with either a chip from the TE or double team with a RB. But overall, very good rookie year.

 

Marrone was OC in New Orleans, but Payton called all the plays. I see earlier in the thread someone praised a reporter who correctly reported he was interviewing only for O-Line, not OC. He has NEVER called plays. He had no chance as an OC.

 

Rappaport or LaConfora reported today he was top of list for OC in BMORE now Kubiak gone...but never even had an interview as he has never called plays. Lord, those guys get played by agents so much its laughable. Never see that chit come out of Sheftys twitter feed.

 

And you are right, it has been reported Pegula wanted him to stay ...Terry even said in the Rex presser he talked to Marrone more than anyone else...and was shocked when he left.

1. By all accounts Payton called all of the offensive plays

2. The combination of Payton/Brees. They will make any OC look good.

3. Pegula is not one to make rash decisions. He is also a man of his word, and was going to honor his contract with Marrone and expected Marrone to do the same. Marrone gambled that his 'opt out' clause gave him some leverage over Pegula in trying to get a contract extension, but he miscalculated in Pegula not biting on that.

 Just from the outside looking in, there isn't much talent on the Bills OL.  Put that together with an under performing QB & the injuries you had at RB and all of that will effect the OL play.  

 

How "hands-on" can a head coach be with a specific position? (serious question, not being snarky).

 

The Bills gave up 30 sacks in '12,  48 in '13 (Marrone's 1st year) & 39 in '14 -    The Jags gave up 71! 

 

Just from reading different BIlls sites, he was running a ZBS with the wrong personnel also. 

 

I wouldn't say im excited about the hire, but I'm not sure I would get excited for any position coach hire.  I think it's an upgrade from our previous coach though.
