Quote:Ok to keep myself from being cyber executed on this forum, let me say: I do like Teddy Bridgewater. Ok with that said, is anybody else down for the idea of drafting Clowney this year and maybe trading back up and getting Manziel and seeing if he pans out which i believe he will. If he doesn't, we will be picking high and can get a shot at Winston, Mariota (if he stays), or Hundley (if he stays). It seems like its worth talking about and that's all it is is talk. We make no decisions just wishes and dreams.Ugh, no thanks. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I don't think Clowney would be a "wasted" pick. I do think that Teddy is by far the better prospect and more valuable prospect. Clowney recently admitted he was a slacker in practice last year. I don't want a guy like that on my team and David Caldwell probably knows what that means. However, if I had not read anything about that or the rib injury incident at Kentucky, I would still think he is a good consolation prize if the Vikings or Buccaneers pick first. Quote:i AGREE 100% HERE. For this reason I hope we land the #1 pick. If not BAP. Root for Minnesota every week, Jagfan. They have almost the same quarterback situation we do, only one win (against the Steelers), and a very difficult schedule. Quote:Take Teddy in the 1st and then another QB in the 2nd. Liar, liar, pants on fire. You know better than that, RFC. If we do what the Redskins did last year we will only upgrade one position and still not fix the C, G, TE, RB, FB, RT, or slot WR, which all need to improve for our new quarterback to carry over college success into the NFL. We can draft the best quarterback in the nation and still suck if he does not have very talented teammates to play with. Quote:IT HAS BEEN PROVEN MOBILE QUARTERBACKS DO NOT LAST IN THE NFL AND ARE NOT GOOD FITS FOR A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK. Write this down: IT HAS BEEN PROVEN MOBILE QUARTERBACKS MAKE TEAMS BETTER AND DO LAST AS LONG AS POCKET PASSERS. In fact, Steve Young ran for more yards than any other quarterback in NFL history except Randall Cunningham in 15 seasons. Although Michael Vick was suspended two seasons, it is worth noting he has been playing as long as many pocket passers. (He was drafted in 2001.) John Elway holds the team record for rushing yards. Steve McNair was also a dual threat. I know there are guys like Vince Young who were mobile quarterbacks and did not last very long, but their problem was simply not being good enough to stay on rosters and did not have anything to do with their risk of injuries. (Vince Young got another chance with the Bills, then was in Green Bay's training camp this year.) Show me the proof if you know as a fact those guys were all very rare exceptions. Your other point, not being a good fit for the NFL, is also way off base. Being mobile does not just mean keeping the ball when nobody is open. It also means scrambling. A mobile quarterback would have a lot more success behind a bad offensive line like ours than one with cement feet. My dad told me even Brett Favre would suck if the Pack had a bad offensive line. Even if we don't have a running quarterback like Terrelle Pryor, we should definitely have one who can scramble out of the pocket.
Oh silly JW. Not sure if you've actually been watching the NFL at all, but defenses are far far far far more physical due to athletes being in far better shape than what the average defense had back in Steve Young's day.
JJ Watt will literally destroy any little read option gimmick QB we take. He will knock Mariota back to Hawaii.
TEST
Manziel stans are going to be just as unbearable as Tebowites over the next few years, I imagine.
No gimmicks give me the QB that has the goods in between his ears. The one that draws praise for his gameplanning, game study and mental ability as a QB not one who simply runs fast.
GIve me the one from a pro style offense that is preparing him for the grind of the NFL not the one read option QB with accuracy issues (sound familiar?). Bridgewater > Johnny Fotball > Mariota. Aslo @ JW : Elway didnt wint a superbowl until he was welll out of his running days and ready to retire when he finally became a pure pocket passer. Steve Young ran less and less as his career grew and learned to operate better from the pocket. McNair was good but running took its toll in the form of injuries just like McNabb, Garrard, RG3 and Vick. Running Qbs get nicked up and hurt and as we are seeing now slowe down by NFL defenses (Kaep,RG3). Also Bridgewater is completely capable of taking off and running he is pretty athletic. Quote:What does this even mean?It means the casual football fans who don't know how to honestly evaluate players. They blindly buy into the media hype and college stats/awards as proof that they will be a star in the NFL, when in truth neither of their skill sets translate well to the NFL.
Mobile QBs last just fine. Scramblers and run-first QBs don't. Manziel is a scrambler.

What about the casual football fans who don't know how to honestly evaluate players? They compare them to players that are completely unrelated and blindly buy into football stereotypes as proof they won't be a star in the NFL, when in truth they have skills that translate to the NFL.
Quote:What do you think he would do to Bridgewater then?Bridgewater would throw on the texans just like any competent qb in the league would

I was strictly rebutting the claim that "it has been proven" mobile quarterbacks have shorter careers. If somebody makes a false claim about history, I have to make a truthful claim about history.
Quote:I'm not even going to argue with you because you are as clueless as it gets. Oh my, lol. I know what I am talking about. The NFL has been trying hard to make the game safer for years, so mobile quarterbacks should play longer now than Steve Young did. The fact they don't means a lot of defenders refuse to change their ways. Anyone who thinks the NFL's #1 priority is not to make the game less physical is clueless.
