I'd be willing to bet that if he hadn't spent that 1 year here in Jacksonville with Blaine Gabbert as a QB coach, the perception would be so different.

Free agency hasn't taken place.

The draft hasn't taken place.

Not a single play has been run, much less called.

We're obviously doomed.

Manning was the OC in Denver so I don't understand the lovefest for Gase. I wanted Trestman because I use his playbook in Madden. Good move to develop BB

In the one season where he had talent (Rams) he had the 6th ranked offense in the league. A 4,000 yard passer, 1,500 yard rusher and 2 1,000 yards receivers. That was with Bulger.

He gets a young offense with loads of potential.

good call. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring Gabbert back and right some wrongs.

Brightside, he worked well with David Carr

I don't understand why people think that the Raiders offense and our offense are comparable. the Raiders have a bunch of washed up vets and a young quarterback and we have a team full of rookies and second year players
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

They have to lean on something to rip the hire.  It's what they do.

I look at what he did in Oakland with Derek Carr and I have to think that if he can make that guy look like a legitimate NFL QB as a rookie, imagine what he can do with a prospect like Bortles?

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Listening to some of the media on this rumored hiring, most talking heads are saying this is a good get.  Olson is actually pretty highly regarded around the league for his coaching ability.  People can't get past Gabbert, but I don't care how good a coach you are, if you're handed garbage to work with, there's only so much you can do.  Gabbert was damaged goods.  No amount of coaching was going to fix what was wrong with his game.

Now that the Sunshine and Rainbow Brigade has arrived in force, and let everyone who disagrees with the hire know how dumb they are, can anyone tell me what Olson has done in the last 10 years to deserve 4 offensive coordinator positions? What makes him a better candidate than anybody else to land this job?

What Olson did at Oakland was run an offense to his QB's strengths (short passes, bubble screens) based on his offense when he had a capable QB he'll run a lot more vertical offense (see stint with Rams and Bucs)

Gus said pretty specifically on his radio show he want's a guy who is flexible when they run into personnel problems, and isn't impressed with coaches who had success when they were play calling for a great players.

And Olson is the only unemployed coach who is flexible? It is a trait completely unique to him? No other offensive coordinator is knowledgeable enough to know how to run variations of their offense?

I wonder if folks in Green Bay were saying the same thing when McCarthy was hired there?  It's not like he was setting the world on fire prior to arriving on a team that had legitimate weapons.  Heck, the year before he went to GB, he was the OC in San Francisco.  He had the 30th ranked offense in the league.  His units in New Orleans from 2000-2004 were middle of the road with one good season in the middle.

We don't really know how good Olson can be here.  He's shown signs throughout his career that he's more than capable.  I'm not jumping up and down for joy if he turns out to be the guy they hire (which it appears he is), but I don't think it's as disastrous a hire as some here want to portray it to be.  Give him the weapons (which we've got a lot of young talent on that side of the ball), and let's see what he can do.  If he falls on his face, we'll be talking about an entirely new coaching staff in 2016.

After sleeping on it, it's a win/win. If he fails, Gus and his entire staff are gone. If he succeeds, we have a decent team.
