Since the Sunshine and Rainbow Brigade believes all negative rankings and stats should be discounted, please tell me what he has done that we should all look at and say, "Wow. He is the one guy for this job we have to get."

His career highlights are

- A top 10 finish on offense with established hall of famers, and then the subsequent decline the next year.

- 3 statistically mediocre quarterback seasons by an average qb, a bad qb, and a rookie.

- Making friends with the right people.

I am also not understanding the "look what he did with Carr" mantra. They won 3 games just like we did, and then got canned.

Its not like Carr was a pro bowler. Olson is being celebrated for Carr not being a bust. Meanwhile, his offense was worse than ours, which is what his actual job was.

Bright spot: The Browns hired Olson's QB coach as OC, so I guess it could be worse.

I'm assuming you're a Gase fan. With that established what has Gase done career wise to be considered the best person for the job other than play puppet for possibly the greatest QB in history statistic wise?

Why would you assume that? I would have definitely preferred Gase to Olson, but I would have preferred a candidate with a track record of success over a larger period, like say Trestman.

And my original deflected question remains unanswered. What has Olsen ever done that would merit his 4th offensive coordinator position?

It's not about him being a pro bowler.  It's about him exceeding expectations in his rookie year despite being surrounded by hot garbage.  It's about finding a way to limit the mistakes you'd expect from a rookie QB by designing an offense that allows him to get the ball out of there quickly.  The Jags gave up 71 sacks in 2014.  Carr was sacked 29 times.  If we can keep Bortles upright more often, I would expect him to be a more accomplished QB than Carr under the same guidance.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

When there was no change at QB, Olsen has done admirably well. Gase is a big unknown. If you are still wondering what Olsen has done that would merit his hiring, why don't you go interview him?!

A lot of teams looked at both Gase and Trestman.  Look at how long it took for the latter to land somewhere, and Gase is still looking.

I think the answer to your question is to be determined.  He'll have more talent to work with here than he's had available to him since his time in St. Louis, and it's YOUNG talent to boot.   What he's shown as an OC is that he'll make the most of the tools he has at his disposal.

Great post. I also found interesting how quickly Baltimore announced Trestman as their OC after interviewing Gase. That tells me that Gase might not be a compelling candidate.

So JLC did have the scoop.

The same logic can be applied to Olson taking this long to be hired. Except there were even less teams interested in him. He may turn out to be amazing - who knows what the future holds? But based on merit, there are many better candidates than someone who has crashed and burned 3 times as an offensive coordinator.

This reeks of when you knew Gene Smith was going to hire his good buddy Mularkey.

If this team wants to change it's losing culture, they need to quit hiring turds. Dead Fish was the perfect example. There was a major reason why Fish was "one and done" with the majority of teams in his coaching career.

Some people on here like to comment because the majority of people are upset with this hire, yet they have a damn good reason to be upset. They're tired of the losing culture, year after year after year.. Can you blame them for being upset with this hire?

The pill would be much easier to swallow with a guy who doesn't have any history as a failed OC.

Pro bowls mean nothing.... Marks wasn't a first team pro bowler. It's voted on by the fans and they usually end up taking the 7th ranked person anyway because people decline.

Remember the year Garrard was a pro bowler?

No one is celebrating Olson... HE HASN'T CALLED A PLAY YET FOR THE JAGS. Can you disagree with the signing? of course you can. But complaining already is absurd.
