What happens to Scelfo?

I'd speculate that Butkus will stay on as assistant line coach, the role he was supposed to fill last year. Clearly, Yarno won't be back this year. I do kind of wonder if Yarno has been told that he needs to take another year off for treatment, and Marrone was signed to a one-year deal to fill the void. Firing a guy because he has cancer doesn't seem like a Gus move.

It would make no sense to give Doug Marrone a one-year contract to replace George Yarno temporarily. If that was our offer, he surely would not have accepted it. There is no way to know when or if Yarno will coach again.

What makes you so sure? Marrone is making $4M plus whatever the Jaguars are paying. It's entirely possible that Marrone was brought in on a one-year deal, with the understanding that he'd only be here for that one year. It's kind of like the deal that Gregg Williams got to be the DC here. Come in for one year, let your old team pay you to work for us, then move on at the end of the season.

If someone offered me a one-year contract and another person a multiyear contract, do you think I would feel as valued and wanted as the other person? Probably not. When all assistant coaches were offered one-year contracts, Mike Shula, then our quarterback coach, bolted for Carolina. Why? Because he wanted a multiyear contract with job security, of course.

Generally speaking, professional football coaches have enough of an ego to lug around that they aren't really worried about being "valued" nor "wanted". By and large, they believe that they provide value to the team by their efforts and that they can produce enough of that value that the teams want them to be around.

I have no idea if Marrone wanted that kind of warm, fuzzy feeling or not but from what I have learned of him, it's not something that he values all that much.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I think we should hire Tony Boselli as an assistant offensive line coach. He is at the senior bowl doing just that so let's just make that a permanent gig.

Quote:Actually, he did a lot to improve Bortles mechanics.  It's not his fault that his student was thrown into action before he had adequate time to continue that progression, and for the muscle memory on the mechanics to fully take hold.  But, they had to placate the "HE MUST PLAY NOW" fans who were howling for a switch saying they didn't care if he regressed this year.  Now they're singing a different tune.

Ha that's rich!

I remember you fiddling us to the tune of no matter how much whining from the fans the Jags will not start Bortles until he's ready no matter how many modis sightings. But then you drop this crackerjack...ha!

He wouldn't do it. He has enough going on professionally, and is content with what he is doing. He did it for a week as a favor to the team.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Exactly.  He said as much the other day on the radio broadcast.  He has no interest in stepping away from what he's doing now with the broadcasts, high school coaching, and in his private life.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

i honestly didnt think they would either but henne and the line were beyond atrocious. the stadium would have been empty the rest of the year and henne might have been dead by week 10.

their hand was forced just to keep fans coming, is my perspective.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

This.  The Teams doesn't listen to the fans, except when it convenient to fit an agenda.

Henne's crappy play is the reason Bortles played, if someone can't see that then they are blind as a damn bat.

I guess you missed my point of Nero fiddling while Rome burns.
