If we trade him, what do we get? A 6th, 7th round pick? I think it is worth more to see if he pans out, because if he does he is easily first round talent. If he doesn't well the only thing we might have lost is a late-round pick. The risk is worth it in my opinion.

If he can come back and stay clean I am all for it. We need a guy like him. He'll make an impact no matter where he lines up on the field from the WR position. Great YAC player.

What rookies are we left with if he doesn't pan out, and how exactly does him being on the roster prevent this team from looking at possible free agent signings?

The team has been pretty clear that they're not moving on from Blackmon.  They've operated under the mindset that he's not here, and as a result, they've brought in some good young talent at the position.  They have said more than once that they're looking at Blackmon as a luxury item.  If he comes back, they'll find room or him to compete for a roster spot.  If that doesn't pan out, then I'm sure they'd look at their options, which would be pretty much non-existent for a guy who has been circling the drain for a while now.  No team is going to give up even late round draft picks for a guy they know the team would be more inclined to release if he either can't stay clean or regain his production.

 

There's zero chance they'll move on from Blackmon unless he comes back from his suspension and he's unable to perform up to their expectations.  Other than that, there's zero reason for them to do anything.

There's a difference between the saying they're not "moving on", i.e. cutting him, than there is in trading him and recouping value.  Don't be so sure everything's so black and white.  One of my favorite quotes is "you don't know what you don't know".  So quit with the know-it-all posture around here.  It's excessive.
