So they have "shocking" video now of a Patriots locker room attendant taking the balls somewhere, and some are convinced this is where the balls got deflated.  

 

But looking at the story, something isn't sounding right.  First of all the video was supplied by the Patriots.  And second of all, the guy took the balls into the bathroom and was in there 90 seconds.  How does he do that in less than 90 seconds?

The only way I can understand it working (and no i didn't work out any science) is if he somehow quickly punctured the balls and they gradually lost pressure in the following hours.  But as far as I know the NFL hasn't released any information on the pressure of the balls other than what they were at half time.

If you look at just Brady's fumbles as a % of Sacks you get something like:

2001-2006: 59 fumbles / 182 sacks (32%)
2007-2014: 37 fumbles / 182 sacks (20%)

I'm aware of the snippet of info that has come out, yes. No where does it state that there is video evidence of a ball boy letting air out of the balls. If you listen to Jay Glazer's comments at foxsports.com, he even says he doesn't think there is video evidence of that happening on the tape. For all you know, the tape may show the ball boy wheel the balls into a storage room and leave immediately and then come back a few minutes later and take them to the field.


You're aruging with me as if I'm proclaiming the Patriots as innocent when in fact the difference between us is that I'm 85% sure the Patriots did something but am urging caution about jumping to conclusions and you're 100% sure with torch and pitchfork in hand. Why don't you just let the investigation run its course? There will be plenty of time to beat up the Patriots over this if it's confirmed they are guilty without risking looking like a buffoon. I thought that might be the case at first, and I'll admit it has something to do with it (but not all). When Welker and Moss left or came to different teams, you don't see the those QBs gaining or losing that much in their QBR.

Moss made Daunte Culpeper look competent and was pretty much done when he left NE. Welker went to Manning. Brady's numbers on long throws are significantly lower these days so the offense is geared around short passing. I'd say comparisons are difficult at best.

The latest theory going around the Bills and Jets forums are they are doing something during their prepping of the ball to raise the internal pressure (like filling with warmer air) and having the refs (unwittingly) adjust the PSI to 12.5.

 

When the balls cool off they are slightly under pressure. The thought is they are shooting for around 11.5 PSI. The cooler temperature on game day will reduce the pressure, but doesn't explain the full 2 PSI loss.

How are those fumbles counted, fumbles lost only or also fumbles recovered? The Pats recovered at least two of their own in the AFC game.
