Our running game needs help. I am not sold on DROB. He is more of a situation/third down back. Toby plain sucks.

I don't think we can cut Beadles without a big cap hit. But I would like to replace him. Does anyone have an idea of what his salary means to the situation? I'm basically hoping it isn't big enough that we can't let him ride the pine for a year and then cut him next season.

RT, TE, WR, and maybe C and HB.  I believe in Caldwell's glorious press conference once our season was done (the one were he said we'd spend big, wish we had more veterans on offense, and pretty much said he didn't care about resigning Cecil) that he didn't believe HB was really an issue, but c'mon.  With this draft class you gotta go for at least one of those guys. Also, I'm not sold on Bowanko.  Gimmie Rodney Hudson and Bryan Bulaga for Christmas in March.  Hudson's from the south and played at FSU, so maybe we can pull him, and I'm assuming we'll give Bulaga top dollar for RT money.

1. TE- This position should've been upgraded years ago, Lewis is one of the worst starting TE's in football, he's merely a 2nd/3rd TE at this stage in his career, contrary to popular belief, his blocking effectiveness has fallen off drastically over the last 2 years and offers nothing as a receiver.

 

 

 

2. RT- The Jaguars arguably had the worst RT situation in football last year, between AP's broken hand and Sam Young's incompetence, I expect the Jaguars to prioritize this position early in FA, whether it be Brian Bulaga, Jeremy Pernell, or Orlando Franklin, this team at the very least
needs above average play at this position.

 

 

 

3. C- Luke Bowanko was ok (for a 6th round rookie), he struggled mightily in pass protection and was average in the run game, I expect the Jaguars to upgrade this position if the opportunity presents itself in FA or the draft.

 

 

 

4. RB- I'm not on the Denard Robinson bandwagon, he flashed last year but I feel he's better suited as a change of pace back. If the Jaguars have a chance to draft a complete back/special player in the second round (whether it be Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon) I expect them to at least consider it.

 

 

 

5. WR- I don't expect the Jaguars to sign Randall Cobb for a couple of reasons, I don't expect Cobb to make it to FA, and if he did, I'm not sure if Jacksonville is a good fit as his skill set is similar to Marqise Lee's. The guy I want the Jaguars to target is Torrey Smith; he has good hands and would give the Jaguars a legit deep threat this team hasn't had in years.

However RT is generally your "power tackle". Usually tackles who have very good strength line up there, just lack the quick feet like LTs have.

 

I wonder if that isn't a little outmoded, with teams sending their best pass rusher against the RT more and more often.   These days, the QB is hugely important, so the pass rush is hugely important, so teams are lining up more than one pass rusher and coming from all angles in a desperate attempt to affect the QB.   In that situation, RTs need to become better pass protectors.

A. Henne isn't a starter which is the gist of this thread

 

B. No team in it's right mind would willingly make a rookie the back up behind a second year player at QB.
