Marcus Mariota Vs Teddy Bridgewater
|
Quote:Uh, his numbers are better than Mariota's, the Heisman frontrunner. And he runs a pro-style offense.:teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: http://espn.go.com/college-football/heisman13/ http://college-football.si.com/2013/10/2...s-winston/ http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/heisman http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-s...ncaaf.html We show less advertisements to registered users. If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.
Quote: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: What is this supposed to imply? You asked why Teddy wasn't putting up "Heisman numbers" this season, but he has a better passing statline than Mariota.
Quote:What is this supposed to imply? Anything to pump up Mariota and take away from Bridgewater
Quote:He is going by the pundit rankings not realizing that has the least bearing on pro success. Anything to pump up Mariota and take away from Bridgewater He's bringing up the current Heisman rankings to disprove that Teddy has Heisman-worthy stats. If Teddy had Heisman stats, he'd be on the Heisman rankings. Since he's not on the rankings, he clearly doesn't have Heisman-esque stats. Wonderfully circular logic, right? It's not like we can pull up the numbers for ourselves or anything. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:If a team offers a kings ransom for Bridgewater I have a pretty good feeling Caldwell will take the deal. This example makes no sense. Not only would failing to get a 2nd next year not represent enough value at all, but by your own words, you would use the picks you gained in this deal an attempt to trade up to get a QB that may not even come out. To me, if you are in a position to draft a franchise QB, why trade out of that position, only to spend the picks you got in that trade to trade back up the next year to draft the same position-especially if you don't know when you trade out of the spot that Winston would even come out the next year? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:Why is it so hard for you and the other detractors to acknowledge Mariota's advantages? Rhetorical question! Because it hurts to give credit to another top rated QB. Because your afraid to be open and possibly wrong about your perceived savior. Teddy is a pretend QB. He should be blowing out his competition and stat padding like a stat thief. But he can't. Jameis Winston makes Teddy look like a poser. When your supposedly the best QB prospect should't you be putting up Heisman numbers? What is the best way to scout a player? Watch him in person or read his box score?

Bridgewater: 179-243 : 77% Completion - 2557 yards - 10.5 - 23 tds - 2 ints - 11 sacks
Mariota: 144-225: 64 % Completion - 2281 Yards - 10.1 YPA - 20 tds - 0 Ints - 10 sacks One is in a run first offense playing slightly better defensive teams as someone posted earlier and the other is in a extremely pass happy 1 read system with tons of screens and throws to the flat where Oregon's speed demons kill defenses. Yet somehow Bridgewater has 77% completion in a pro style offense and Mariota can only muster 64% throwing screens and crossing routes all day. The YPA of 10 in a pro style offense is amazing as well. And where is this Mariota is amazing accurate stuff coming from? His 64% puts him 34th amongst college QBs .01 ahead of Taj Boyd who is considered up and down in the accuracy department. Bortles,Carr,Mettenberger, McCarron , Petty , Hundley (another one who's accuracy is questioned) , Manziel and Braxton Miller all have better accuracy percents then Mariota and most of those i listed arent in pass happy spread option offenses .
Some people need to stop looking at pure numbers when they talk about Mariota vs. Bridgewater, and actually watch them play. Stop knocking guys for the offense they run, and watch them in situations where they are asked to play "NFL" QB.
http://youtu.be/rM6-KQeGcMc 45:26 46:40 1:01:30 1:52:49 2:03:42 Look at these 5 plays and tell me that he isn't an elite prospect. I do think he's good but nothing there that made me think he was elite.
Even without looking at the stats Mariota struggles with his accuracy more than you'd like from a potential franchise QB

I do think he's good but nothing there that made me think he was elite. Much like Louisville's offense, Oregon is actually heavily centered around the running game and a lot of Mariota's passes are bang plays to the outside, which I chose not highlight. Not to say he wasn't playing well for 45 minutes, because he did start off very efficient, I just picked out plays that stand out to me. A misconception when comparing the talent around Bridgewater and Mariota, Mariota doesn't have a Devonte Parker or Gerald Christian to throw to. Contrary to popular belief, the players that are catching Mariota's passes are just running backs, and they have trouble catching routine balls. I believe other than Oregon's TE, none of Mariota's receiver's are taller than 5'11". And it's not like Teddy is just throwing it up to Parker like Stafford does Calvin. Mariota doesn't make very many read and if he has bad game, they can still win because they got more than just him. If Teddy has a bad game, they lose. Period.
Quote:neither, just breathe through your mouth and you'll be fine I tried breathing through just my mouth for a few seconds. Oddly enough, I started preferring Mariota to Bridgewater. Weird.

Quote:were you watching highlights of 70 yard TD runs? if so, that would explain a lot Oh my god, yes! I thought I was hallucinating from lack of oxygen. But I was actually watching Mariota highlight videos on Youtube. It was the 70 yarder on a loop. Quote:Isn't De'Anthony Thomas like a top 10 player in all of college football? Thomas plays in the backfield, and he's also been hurt. I agree that Oregon's offense doesn't ask Mariota to make reads like in a traditional NFL offense all of the time, but when he is asked to do such, he shows he is more than capable. He shows willingness to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball, and he also shows the ability to escape the pocket when need be and make plays where there is none. People compare him to Kaepernick because of his size, but to me his style of play reminds me of Russel Wilson.
Wilson is a tactical thinker and it shows in how he goes through progressions and does every thing possible to not leave the pocket. Mariota has the break from the pocket early problem and will scramble at a much higher rate than wilson who prefers to slide around in the pocket and then escape at the last minute.
Mariota is a run the play by the book type. You wont see him beating teams with his brains and thats why i cant place him above bridgewater. If the play design is bad then Mariota will falter whereas with Wilson he will simply adjust the play to fit better. You cant teach a athletic minded player like Mariota to suddenly start using his brain he will need a very detailed system with much of the thinking process taken down so his athletics can shine through. RG3 is very similiar in this trait and so was Vick. They have relied on their athletics to the point it has become second nature for them to think it will just carry them through games. Their mindset is " well this play wont look too good against this cover 2 but if it doesnt work out i can just run anyways" for Wilson its "Well this play wont work against the cover 2 ima adjust this because i dont want to have to run and the bigger plays will be downfield" Big difference IMO. |
