Jags Hire Greg Olson as OC

Quote:Olson's defense on radio today was essentially the same defense everyone else has used: I've been placed in tough situations.

My question is, if he has been in the leauge this long, why hasn't he ever managed to find a better situation? That's the question nobody is answering.

With that being said, the job he did in Tampa with Freeman is encouraging. Blake's of a similar mold.
Because teams in good situations dont really need a OC most the time.

He was the OC in St. Louis when they had a top 10 unit, and a QB who threw for more than 4,000 yards.  Does that not count?

He only has so much control over the overall success of any team he's affiliated with as the OC.  He can't help that he's been surrounded with little talent in his most recent stops.  Doesn't make him a lesser coach.

We'll see what he can do here.  He'll have enough talent to work with to show what he's capable of.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

OCs leave for head coaching jobs all the time though. Indy would have been a good situation with the drafting of Luck, and then again with Bruce Arians leaving. Baltimore must not have been interested, because that is a far more attractive job than here. San Fran this year, the Giants had an opening last year. Were they perfect "Denver/New England- like" situations? No. But outside of that year with the Rams, he has kind of been a bottom feeder.

Look at some of the names that teams hired to be their OC this year, then think about how none of those teams even bothered to interview Greg Olson.

We will see though. I certainly expect him to improve Blake. The question will be whether or not he can be anything beyond a developmental coordinator. Hopefully we can sign a freaking veteran receiver. That's what the team has been missing for far too long.

Quote:How can you not be excited about this hire?

Gus has a vision of what the Jags Offense should be.

He found that guy who can make that vision a reality and that has me excited about the Jags future as an Offense.

Gus had the Defense looking pretty good in 2014.

In 2015, the Offense will show a similar type improvement resulting in 7 to 9 wins.

No teams with veteran QBs even sniff the guy, so what good is he beyond development? And if that's his specialty, why hire him as anything but a QB coach?

Because he's not only shown that he can develop young QBs, but he's also shown that with the right talent, he can be an effective offensive coordinator.  He's highly regarded around the league, and it's not as a QB coach.

We've been missing at the receiver position period.

Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.
