Owner of St. Louis Rams plans to build NFL stadium in L.A.

D6 -- do you know how to fix the quote function? Mine hasn't been working for over a month. I think I did a system reset but don't know which function to change to set it back.

Quote:I have a question for everyone. In other words, do you think the support USC/UCLA has translates into NFL support/passion? If that is the question, I say it depends. The Rams were in Los Angeles for several decades. Their move, like that of just about every other franchise, centered around one thing: bad stadium issues. Yes, attendance was an issue late in the Rams stint in Los Angeles, but attendance wasn't an issue for most of their stay in Los Angeles, nor was it the issue that drove the Rams away. Are there a lot of football fans in Los Angeles overall, as evidenced in part by the support USC/UCLA? I would say yes. Are there a lot of NFL fans in Los Angeles overall? I think so. Does the USC/UCLA attendance prove the existence of NFL fans in Los Angeles? No. As is the case here, if the fanbases were represented by a venn diagram, there would not be complete overlap between the fans of the local colleges and the NFL. For that matter, should the Rams return to Los Angeles, I don't think there would be complete overlap between the fans of the NFL and the Rams. I think people who developed allegiances in the Rams absence would retain their allegiances to a large degree. Does the USC/UCLA attendance prove the existence of a voting populace that would be willing to support construction of stadiums in the future? No. Does the USC/UCLA attendance prove the existence of a fanbase that would support the team during lean years, especially in the face of overwhelming entertainment alternatives available in the area? No. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
HURRICANE, great point regarding the stadium situation. For LA to have sustained fan support, a modern stadium with amenities being a focal point, is something that's an important part of the formula. If/ when LA gets one or more NFL teams, it's safe to assume that such a stadium will be built in the market.
HURRICANE, I believe the problem, at least on this end, is with IE 11. Other than changing operating systems, I have no idea what can be done to fix the problem.

Quote:ROTFL @ people who don't think LA can support 8 home games ONCE a week lolROFL at people who forget the past so easily. The LA team(s) will fill the bleachers with their eyes closed...for their first few years. Let's not forget how pathetic the attendance at Clippers games was before they started winning. What happens if the football team(s) start losing? Will fans support them blindly, or will they spend their entertainment dollars elsewhere, leaving the NFL with the same embarrassing empty stadiums they had shortly before the last time of the Raiders and Rams pulled out? When LA gets a new team in a new stadium, they're set for 20 years. Afterwards, especially if they want public money to upgrade or replace the stadium, the team(s) is/are in the toilet and attendance is in the crapper, they could move right back out again.
Quote:I was told to switch my browser to firefox. WOW !!! THANKS ..... originally, I thought I was just on some type of double secret probation and part of my rights were taken away. FIREFOX FIXED IT !! gotta test the gifs next.
Quote:ROFL at people who forget the past so easily. The problem with the Clippers is that when they moved to LA we already had the success of the Lakers. That is what overshadowed the Clippers. They were irrelevant because in the eyes of LA the Lakers were the only team. You are pretty much comparing apples to Oranges. You also have an example of a fan base (Clippers) that has done nothing but steadily grow since moving to LA. Even when they were garbage. Kinda proves my point about LA again. I'll admit there is some validity to your arguments. The LA Coliseum was a major problem for the teams and there was no light at the end of the tunnel in sight for a new one. You are spot on task on the 20 year window a new stadium would provide. 10 Home games aren't much to support with the population size available.

I just uploaded Firefox to this computer and now the quote function is working. Thanks also to everyone else who made this suggestion to me in the last year or two. I finally decided something had to be done, as the other computer has IE7 on it. That has become way too outdated, as it won't work on many websites. Quote:Yes it is the darn IE11 problem. If I find Firefox as useful on other websites as I already am with the Jaguars MB Forum, I just might stick with Firefox with my laptop computers. We show less advertisements to registered users. The replacement for IE 11 is going to favor Internet standards and user needs than anything they have right now. I have mixed feelings. I like doing my banking on IE 11 because I have all of the strong consumer protection, privacy features and certificate options maxed out. I then have to use something else for forum debate. So maybe the next thing will be a magic wand of technology for me.

As much as I would like to have a spell check when posting on this board, if given the choice the quote feature is my preference. I post on a few other internet message boards, such as for stocks and financials and spell check works fine there...Spell check seems to work everywhere but here |
