Not sure about Jefferson's background, but if this is his first incident that may have played into the choice.  Sam has had a few red flags in the past.

Apparently, Cierre Wood -- the RB who was cut at the same time at Montgomery and Jefferson -- was also brought in for a workout with the team.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
