Quote:Didn't say it was going to work with the Jags.. I said I think it's worth the risk. We all know about his issues, youd have to be blind not to see him..

Nothing wrong with handing the guy 1-2 mill "if he bites" and let him prove himself. IF he complies and acts like a team player, we got a deal. If not, we wasted "just another guy's" salary and cut ties..

I'm not being condescending when I ask this, but there is a reason why he does the things he does?  There is something wrong there....and its not going to change.

Even coming out of college the scouts all knew the personal issues he had.

A look at Harvin's history of transgressions:
  • Harvin might have sealed his fate with the Seahawks in last week's loss to theDallas Cowboys, refusing to play late in the game, the Seattle Times reported. He played 26 of 48 snaps on offense but didn't play 11 of the final 17. He touched the ball six times for minus-1 yard.
  • Curiously, this story didn't break until Friday, but several media outlets reported that Harvin had an altercation with fellow receiver Golden Tate leading up to the Super Bowl last February. Tate ended up with a black eye.
  • In the preseason, Harvin and teammate Doug Baldwin were involved in a scuffle that resulted in a gash on Baldwin's chin, the Times reported. Both players were excused from practice that week.
  • Harvin's time in Minnesota, 2009 to 2012, was filled with a number of incidents. One played out on national television, with Harvin screaming at then-coach Leslie Frazier on the sideline during a game in Seattle in 2012. Weeks later, Harvin reportedly got into another argument with Frazier that was witnessed by some players and staff members.
  • Harvin also had disputes with Frazier's predecessor, Brad Childress. One such altercation occurred in 2010, when Childress questioned Harvin's effort in practice. Harvin, limping with an apparent ankle injury, took exception, and the two had to be separated by players and coaches, according to reports. Another time, they got into a shouting match in the weight room, which included Harvin throwing a weight at Childress. It put a hole in the wall.
  • In 2009, Harvin reportedly tested positive for marijuana at the NFL scouting combine. That didn't stop the Jets from showing interest. In fact, they flew to Florida the week of the draft to spend private time with Harvin. After trading up for quarterback Mark Sanchez, they tried to trade back into the first round for Harvin, but then-general manager Mike Tannenbaum deemed the price too steep.
  • Harvin also had problems in college at Florida. He tested positive for marijuana, refused to run the stadium steps with other teammates during a conditioning session, and attacked wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, according to The Sporting News. Harvin threw Gonzales to the ground by his neck, according to the report.
  • Harvin is regarded as one of the greatest high school athletes from the Virginia Beach, Virginia, area, but Harvin encountered trouble in his early years. He was suspended twice, once for unsportsmanlike contact and another time for contacting an official and using inappropriate language. In the spring of his senior year, when he ran track, he was banished by the local high school sports association, reportedly stemming from a fight during a basketball game.

I understand the character concerns, but we tried to label Denard Robinson an offensive weapon, and it didn't work out because he was better as a RB. It's not his fault, and I'm glad he's shown growth as a RB. at the same time, Percy Harvin is the offensive weapon you drafted Denard to be. I wouldn't mind the signing at all.

This goes far beyond Harvin and his character issues. It goes for any player with a mark against his name. If dude can play and he's an upgrade from a current sloth on the team, give him a shot within reason.. Time to quit being scared.

Yes. The Jaguars should overlook his suspensions in high school and college. His choking a coach in college. His refusing to participate in practices in games in college and the NFL. His altercations with coaches and teammates in the NFL. I mean that 40 time is too good to overlook.

Quote:This team pays these players millions of dollars for a couple of seasons worth of play. If "asking" them to try and get along with other teammates is asking too much of them, I think they can cope. They won't break, I promise.. If you need more solid reasoning for that, that sounds like a personal problem.

But to your point, why should the remainder of the squad be told that they have to deal with one individual instead of telling the one individual that he will have to fit in with the team? From my perspective, that's what happened in each of the spots where he was before, and he either could not or would not cope, i.e. suck it up.

Organizations that are asked to perform complex tasks in high stress environments are very delicate things, it really doesn't take a lot to knock them off stride. Bringing in a player with the kind of baggage that Harvin has is just asking for the team concept to be derailed.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

He couldn't stick with the Vikings, Seahawks or Jets.  He'll be GREAT here!

I never said or implied that. But to your point I'd ask the question, what good is a playmaker if he takes himself out of a game?

Would I like to have Harvin's talent on the roster? Absolutely I would! Am I willing to let him sow discontent amongst the roster? Not really.

Josh Smith... Dion Waiters.... Percy Harvin. Sometimes the talent is good but the player doesn't actually help.

Players who are cancers in the locker room and bring the team down. Once the Seahawks traded Harvin this year, what happened? Once Josh Smith was traded from the Detroit Pistons, they went on a 7 game win streak. Once Dion Waiters left the Cavs, they began a crazy winning culture.

Sometimes you just have to take the bad with the good.. Better than having the good with a lack of play making abilities.

Sign the guy, if anyone can control him it has to be Gus right? He is a electrifying player, use him to his full abilities and everyone is happy. I bet Seattle missed Percy Harvin during the super bowl.

Since 2012, Harvin has 114 catches 1177 yards and 4 TDs. In three seasons.

I think some of you may be overrating what he is.

Actually, the numbers suggest otherwise. For the first five weeks of 2014 with Harvin on the roster, the team averaged 186 Passing Yards and 336 Total Yards of Offense. For the 14 games after that, including the Super Bowl, they averaged 215 Passing Yards and 391 Total Yards of Offense.

If anything, I'd say they got better.

I didn't give specifics earlier, but this is what I was referring to.  The guy can't stay on the field...there is always an issue with him.

Apparently we'll never change the opinion of others here that don't want to reason.  Seattle paid a lot of money and draft picks for that output!

I don't think it can be disputed that Harvin, when on the field, is a dynamic player.  Ok, he had the injury, but lets not act like he sucks.

He just isn't worth the headache for the giant contract he got.... hence, why he is being cut again.

He resorts to those kind of posts when he has nowhere else to go.  He doesn't want to admit he's wrong, so it must be we all just like losing that we can't agree with him.
