Earl Thomas was drafted 14th. Troy Polamalu was drafted 16th.

 

It all depends on the strength of the class, but I'd venture a guess that if you're drafting your safety higher than tenth overall, you're shooting too high. In any case, Landon Collins isn't even in the same city as Earl Thomas, let alone the same ballpark. He's closer to Mark Barron (drafted seventh) than Thomas, and we all know how well Barron worked out.

To me you gotta go with Danny Shelton. I realize DT isnt the biggest need but the dude is huge with great feet. Those guys are rare. With him though he isnt just a space eater, the guy had double digit tackles for a loss and 9 sacks as a senior. This guy has the potential to be Haloti Ngata but a better pass rusher. And as far as I know the guy isnt a thug. And was an academic all american. A lot going for him as a prospect.


If Leonard Williams isnt there, I may consider Shelton over Ray, Fowler, or Gregory. It depends on what we learn about those other guys as the process moves on. Is Ray as big as listed and as athletic as they say? Is Gregory injury prone? Is Fowler more versatile instead of being great at one thing?

The reason? BAP. You now have leverage on some team that was salivating over said QB and can therefore demand your price if you decide not to keep Mariota for the greatest QB competition since Bledsoe vs Brady. Favre vs Rogers. Griffin vs Cousins. Woops! Did I say Mariota?

I can't see the Jags drafting another OT and sinking that much money into the position.

Dante Fowler is not widely projected as a top five pick. He will have to be one of the best defensive line performers at the combine to get more top 10 projections. But if he is not a reach at #3, I would definitely be interested.

 

Randy Gregory has more than size to worry about. A scout recently compared him to draft bust Dion Jordan. Of course there probably is another scout criticizing Shane Ray. This is when even the best players get picked apart.

 

Why can't you see us sinking a lot of money into another offensive tackle? We picked a guy for the left side. Now we need to pick a guy for the right side.

I agree about Fowler. He will have to impress to be a top 3 pick. Seriously impress.


As you know teams almost never have two dominant OT's. The money always goes to the QB's blindside.

Besides we allowed 71 sacks. Nobody's job is safe.

I think we all have to come to grips with the fact that there isnt a slam dunk at #3 if Williams is off the board. Its a weak draft, but with good solid depth. If we cant trade out of the pick, either shoot for the moon with the highest upside (Fowler or Gregory) or go with the safest choice (Amari Cooper).

Actually Marcus Mariota is not the BAP at #3. In fact, a lot of players are ranked higher than him on Daniel Jeremiah's Top 50 list. If you want the BAP regardless of position, you want Amari Cooper.
